One thing I've been worried about from day one, and is even more apparent in the ihobby pics, is the water tightness. If you look at a side shot it seems the back of the hatch has two little sections that extend beyond the transom. Originaly I thought, that looks hard to tape over. Now that I see the Ihobby pics, it looks like there are holes under the hatch where those two extended sections are. Almost as though they intend for you to tilt the boat back and dump water out from under the hatch after some running. That would be great with the stock setup, seeing how everything inside, including batts should be ok in the water. But I wouldn't want my lipos getting soaked if that is actually the intention of those little holes.

It would have done them well if they would have asked some racers and builders on this site of the best setups and hull designs.NAMBA20...Caterpillar UL-1, P-Spec OM29, P-Mono DF33, P-Spec JAE, Aussie 33" Hydro-LSH, Sprintcat CC2028 on 8s, PT SS45 Q Hydro, PS295 UL-1 power, OSE Brothers Outlaw QMono 4-sale, Rio 51z CC2028 on 8sComment

My guess is alignment holes for pins to go thru to fasten / align the hatch. Or could be holes that hold magnets like the Pro boat stuff. Unless the seal is very tight, still a place for water intrusion.Comment

I am really not worried about the strength as Traxxas has a rock solid reputation and warranty. Even if they had problems with the transom I am sure they would make it right.Definitely not like almost all the rtr boats from China where the parts usually last half a run if you are lucky and then their is no support whatsoever.
I really like the power module thing they have brought to the market. Take out the whole darn unit with a couple of screws. Now if they could offer a couple of different hulls to place this power module in that would be soooo cooool. One well built reliable and powerful power unit and 3 different hulls? The possibilities are definitely there.Comment

Hmmmmm, we may have stumbled upon secret plans traxxas has locked deep in a underground vault for future RTR boats...
That would be AWESOME though.Comment

That would be really cool. If you could buy like a 34" cat with just the hardware and not the power module and you could slide that right into the cat really quick that would be awesome. I like that thought process, of course they would have to have a rtr version and a plug-n-play version.Even if Traxxas does not offer it I am sure the aftermarket will latch on pretty quick.

Well if we are thinking out loud....................How about a twin power module set up? They could offer a counter rotating power module where you could combine this with the existing unit you have. Slide both of them into a 50" cat and let her rip. Sure there would need to be a little receiver tweaking but the results and cost factor would be nothing short of wow.Comment

Taiwan has, for years, produced very fine full-sized boats. Most of the cruising trawlers in the U.S. are from Taiwan yards. Whether this has anything to do with the Spartan is a guess. It all boils down to the target manufacturing cost. The Spartan's integrated power module seems like a well thought out design feature and most likely contributes to the reasonable price.2008 NAMBA P-Mono & P-Offshore Nat'l 2-Lap Record Holder; '15 P-Cat, P-Ltd Cat 2-Lap
