Went into my LHS today to buy some items, and casually asked if they had any news on the release of the "Spartan"............."whats that" the guy said................i had him pull up the Traxxas site and he showed the owner who had no idea.............i thought that was kinda comical as i stared at the entire wall of Traxxas parts behind them...............the E-maxx on the counter, and the Blast boat to the side.......................

it was kinda cool to show them the new truck before they even had info on it
most LHS shops are slow to this stuff

At this point they should just start clean and roll it out for spring 2011.

Agreed. Take the winter and get it right. Don't listen to the bean counters Traxxas. Your reputation is worth more than releasing a half-baked boat during winter.

$80.00 +- for a replacement hull is a little steep, I was thinking more on the lines of $25.00

Not for a vacuum formed hull. You are talking about gtting 6 pieces of plastic from a 4x8 sheet for forming this thing. REmember you have the hull, deck, inner liner and hatch at the minimum. That is a half sheet of ABS, which is probably about $12 worth of plastic. Then you have forming, trimming, assembly, decals....

Vac-u-pickle charges $50 for the vacuum formed parts, you trim and assemble for a 21" crackerbox. Now you have an assembled 36" vee hull for $80? Doesn't sound out of line for a commercial offering from a large company with the overhead and warranty services. A glass polyester empty hull would cost about the same from a chinese company. HOR has a 32" glass vee for $65 + shipping from china.

I also make a crackerbox vacuum formed hull. I offer them at $25 for the three pieces, you trim. That is not much $$$ for my time and material on a 21" boat. Just gives me enough money to buy more plastic to try other things with. Luckily I have a good paying job for the bills so this remains a hobby.

Now, I would prefer the glass hull myself, but some people like the abs and its benefits. That is what is great about many things, people get to try what they want. How boring would it be if everyone had to buy boat hulls only the way I wanted them made????? It would be a rather small hobby crowd I am afraid, I do things out of the norm!

I think they may sell some at $80, who knows. But price doesn't seem out of line at around $80.

I've formed hulls from ABS, Styrene and some stuff refered to as PETG.

$80 is cheap for a true ABS hull done correctly. ABS sheet is a bugger. You have to make sure it's dry or it blisters. Probably not an issue for a plant set up for it.

looks like the esc grew a bulge, for caps I'm guessing, they've been tweaking more than just the name.

I must say I love the way this boat looks. Nice and sleek with good lines.

This is nothing but good news. Traxxas cannot afford to release this boat with issues. Their name and reputation would be severely tarnished if things lasted like most of the RTR china stuff. It would also cost them a fortune since they do back their products with a solid reliable warranty.

Once this hits the water I think they will have a hard time keeping it on the shelf. I think anyone who seriously wants one for next summer better pre order as I can already see the BO problems.
