You can see prices in this link Jerry:

Normally, they would use 2 of those in conjunction with a gearbox so you can use 1 single motor:

The gas guys I am running with are telling me that they're set ups average $2500.I will also stick with my cheap,"slow" FE's.

I dont know what your gas guys are running over there, but that figure is quite high. Of course you can utilize whatever components the rc gas boat world has to offer like those MHZ drives but I would say that an average running gas boat is in the $1000 mark.
              If you do the math:
              hull - $300 - $350
              Zenoah 290 - $300
hardware - $200 (for mono. Cat would be cheaper)
              exhaust system - $150

The rest are minor like servos, rx battery, water line and fuel line.

If someone will compare a typical 32" FE to a typical 45" gas boat, then hands down the FE will be cheaper. But with the trend now of running gas boat hulls using electrics, it just might turn out more expensive and less run time.
As an example, we have a fellow boater here who tried electrics in a 45" Lazer hull:
Hull and hardware is the same cost above
              56 motor - $200
              FC 300 esc - $300
              4s & 5s batteries - $200 (he used 2 x 4s and 2x5s for a total of 9s for each run)

That gives him a 5-6 minute run. If he wants a 2nd run w/o charging, another $200 for batteries. He could always elect to quick charge 4 x 5200mah packs - I dunno how long that would take.
There's always a choice and I for one made mine - but I dont think I would switch to gas motors if the average cost is $2500 per boat.

keeping the sound low of a gasser without losing power is close to impossible. Those gas engines are noisy even with the silencers on!

Lenny - havent done anything on that "monster" cat yet? Would that be FE or Gas?

I dunno if Steve (Pro Painter) is a member here but he does amazing airbrush designs. If just for seeing his work of art in Jim's is already worth the price of signing-up.

For that Cat you got from Joe - I am dreaming of a RCMK S-520 in-line twin to pair with that! hahahaha!

I'm back to "not feeling it".Could have something to do with that "I lost Sumthin" feeling. I ordered the HV ESC's tonight for the Komodo.
Maybe when the Little Twin comes together I'll get back to it.
