You will find that the ride surface is not flat we call this "hooks". After sanding a little you will find that you will need some glazing putty for the low spots. After the putty is dry, you sand again. Keep doing this until the ride pads are nice and flat. If you do this, you should do more reading up to make yourself familiar with the process. This will make the boat faster and alot more consistent when driving!
Thanks for the info bro! So I'm guessing I will need to repaint the boat?

          My blueprinting on my MG..........

Look at the 4th pic - the inner corner of the ride pads should be sharpened - perfectly sharp 90 degrees.

jerry, i'm not so much worried about the standoff, it's more that gap between the strut & the stuffing tube underneath. that part seems hard to make. anyway, i'm not there yet and worst case scenario, i'll just get the m29 strudder. that one should line up properly, right? and it's made better than the mg29 strudder?

Had soo much fun today! Our usual Sunday became a Saturday sched this week and I just brought my gas boats. My Geico mono had a problem with the adjustable stinger, so it had to sit it out. Good thing I got my R-42 Cat with me, so it was the only one I had to run today! What a blast - I love it!
Stephen had a bad rudder servo, so he didnt get to play much - but when his Top Gun arrives (courtesy of Jason) atleast he would have an alternative if one gets busted on the pond!

Nope that doesnt match. The green color I re-painted my ride pads were kinda avocado-ish in color. Its darker than the stock MG fluorescent green but I like it :)

The stock MG strudder is in-line, while the stock strudder of MC (Mystic) is off-set. You want the offset, so get the MC29 (Mystic) strudder instead. This will solve you the ff:

                    1. no need to buy offset posts or any other brackets
                    2. It 'may' align' the existing transom holes of the MG
                    3. It might just be a bolt-in stuffing tube to the strut

Eliminate some problems so you can concentrate on blueprinting and reinforcing of the hull. They might be a bit tough and time consuming at first but will save you lots of problems down the road.
You dont want to do those mods once you are already running and have all the electronics and hardware installed. do it right the first time, so you'll be trouble-free on its maiden run and hopefully beyond!

i wish one of you guys were here so i could drive over and have you do it

As for removing the wooden deck, the other guys here didnt and I dont think they encountered any problems. Me, I just want it out so I could have a cleaner slate of whatever modifications or reinforcements that I want to do. I dont wanna say I didnt get to do this or do that because the wooden tray was in the way. Of course, this is just my way.

Since you're from Ca - maybe you can pm Jason for his number and maybe you can give him a quick call as he's from Ca as well.

yea, i might just do that. he's only a couple hrs away. i think he lives in the bay area, we love going there with the family. my wife and i esp. love going to SF for seafood or italian in north beach (italian ghetto). our schedules need to sync up though.

tell me, how can you do the reinforcement with the wood in the way?

I think that Shawn would be the best person to answer that.

For me, I just want to reinforce the floor of the Cat - aside from the area where the stuffing tube exits, all electronics sits on the floor so I wanted another fiberglass layup on that part. I also want to add another layer of fiberglass on the seams all around the hull and the transom. So I felt that having the wooden tray out would give me ample space to manipulate my hand holding a brush applying resin as well as positioning the fiberglass matt.
We even poured resin 1-1/2" deep on both tips in the front for added strength and a bit of weight.
