Thats my Etti in the above picture. I've run the same setup in this boat all season long (approx 25 or so runs) and the esc has never been over 100 degrees. I realize that no esc is perfect for every application, too many variables in our sport. I also understand everyone has some amount of brand loyalty. As far as customer support if I have to wait a month or two to get my esc back thats half the season here. I'm just looking for the best esc for the buck.
Just another reason why the Cheap ESC's are looking better and better

No, but I watched TWO $600 Schulze's smoke on plug-in and even more Castle's.
If I'm going to buy a smoke container, I'd rather do it at the price for a himodel or turnigy. Seems they are all prone to failure at some point.

I agree...that is why I feel the Etti is the best for the buck. Good service as well.
Now if you can get the himodels to hold for $62 then go for it. Many do well if cooled right. Their QC is lacking but many others are too.
So it is really just a gamble...supporting Caslte is good. I just do not want to feel like a beta tester all the time and not being told.Comment

ITS PLANE and SIMPLE, NO esc is perfect. Period. So by one from a manufacturer that will stand behind their product. ETTI and Castle will both do that.
Also if you have the bucks buy way more than you need. For example, I have hydra 240's in boats that can easily use a 120 or less. They have been around since the hydra was new out. I also go by the old saying, if it aint broke, dont fix it. So I tend to not upgrade firmware, unless I have an issue.Steven Vaccaro

Steven , that is the point a lot of guys buy motors with props that are not correct for the application and with an ESC that has no hope of that boat's demands. How Castle can afford to keep up their warranty program with people who overstress their equipment is beyond me, but they do seem to have issues with their HV controllers. Also I wish that ESC manucturers for boats were a touch more conservative on their specifications.

That was what I was stating. I use Castle controllers and have had no problems when as you have previously mentioned use caution. Read the post again. Confussed as to your reply. The name is Douggie not guy

guy was a typo. The answer is in response to this
"Also I wish that ESC manucturers for boats were a touch more conservative on their specifications."
So in different words you can rate a hydra 240 at 50 amps. People will still push and push to see what they can get out of it.
Why they burn on plug in is beyond me. It just shouldn't happen, but does.Steven Vaccaro

You two are saying the same thing.
Yes, when light setups pop ESCs or upon plugging in then there is an issue. Do electronics wear out?
Hey, it happens to the aiplane people as well. They can just get by with much less sicne they are geared well.Comment

Brod, the mystery question. I have not experienced it but many HV Castle users have. I use LV Barracudas and Hydra on no more than 5S and conservative setups and no issues
