Dom, RTR boats as setup, a minor prop change is ok with added weight as Fluid suggested. Hull length and design on custom boats are another question. That is why this RC sport is the most demanding. I am not a leader just a follower and I listen and read boaters experiences who are more experienced than myself and I now look at conservative setups. Captian Ron and Doug Smock are only two of many that helped me

I too favor conservative setups and look at a compromise on speed, reliability, handling and boating experience (fun factor). Some buy hulls based on others experiences or appearence. However, some posts incredible speeds on a given hull and a newbie tends to think that it is the fastest. Not realizing that compromises were made to get to those speeds. Like the before mentioned attributes I like. For someone new, FE can be a money pit and they may lose interest. What I am trying to get at is realistic expectations and not throw money on hulls/setups that may prove to be daunting to someone who is new and excited with this hobby.Government Moto:

OK, so I'm waiting for the epoxy to dry on my latest project[], and a thought came to mind to help the performance-minded entry level folks wanting more from their RTR's : " Hop-Up Kits" with tried and tested components. Steven used to offer these, but currently this section of the store is blank. It's like when I worked at the Harley dealership and watched first-time Harley riders spend megabucks to screw up a perfect running machine in the name of "upgrading". When I built a small-block for my truck I bought nothing but Edelbrock parts; all designed to work together for a given "stage" of performance. Maybe a RTR Hop-up thread which suggests the group of parts derived from those that arrived at their knowledge from trial and error. Who knows ? Then again you can lead a horse to water, but it's a bee-atch getting him to select the the correct prop !

Umm.. Actually Hull "speed limits" are being exceeded yearround, just ask Mike Martin, who made a 25inch Delta force hit dang near 80
I don't know a SINGLE boater that would estimate that little hull would hold a speed like that.
I've got a 17 inch cat that hits 60 and a 14 inch hydro that hits 65+ mph!
There are many factors involved, hull design being the most important, but Power to weight ratio has TONS to do with it as well.
Thrust angle/depth has seemed to be the ticket to getting a hull to exceed 'expected" limits
A high thrust level in some cases, and a negative thrust angle in others
In many of the cases (not all), the boat is setup super wet nearing the point of having dive characteristics

saddle pack on an octura x-427 prop
The BBY Micro hydro runs the same system, but on an octura 1930 modified to the hilt by Brian Buass
Both fast runs were on perfect glass
Here is vid of both of them in too much chop, but still managing due to the serious weight inside
they're not the fastest runs, but fast enough to believe it..
In the vids they were running a bit slower system, the 5.5 turn motor instead of the 3.5 motor..

I truly hope I don't come off as a showoff, and deeply appologize if so..
I've just got some out of the norm setups that I like to share with people who aren't aware that the equipment is capable of it
I really appreciate the compliment though. The systems I run are actually some of the least expensive, motor and speedo you can get for around 200, Maxamps batteries are reasonably priced, and the hull was SUPER cheap!
I think Randy has them in ABS (as I ran) for around 30 bux Much of the hardware was scratchbuilt
Much of my success with these boats comes from relentless practice.. It took a long time for me to ever win anything. I'm always shocked when anyone says I have tallent thanx!Comment

The Campbell classic hydro was designed for a brushed 700 can and 12 cells. Here is my brushless version that does 45 mph - the video gives you the specs. This is our test pond - a bit small but good for getting a stalled boat.
