Do you think it will be a big difference when I change my connectors and wire?

Matt, before deciding on what turn,kv etc,you have to decide what lipo packs you are going to use,how many volts,ie 4s,5s,6s,8s etc..
      Brod..
      Slow gets boring fast.

sorry for hijacking your thread Matt!!!
Do you think it will be a big difference when I change my connectors and wire?
It's all a combination of small thing that makes a big difference at the end, Dean have a 0.4miliOhm resistance, 5.5mm bullet have a 0.05miliOhm resistance (8x factor), 10GA wires are far better than 12GA because resistance/foot is 2/3rd, two ESC's made from the same MOSFet's, a 200A will have an internal resistance equal to half of a 100A one...

        Matt,
If you go for 6S, at least for the very begining, you could go for cheap cr@p Mystery 200A from e bay!... around £25!
Now think about this, a 580 is given for 100A at its max efficiency, if you stay at 80%, 80A under 6S (Mystery's should be able to do it) will give you 1800W (witch is the max power the 580 are given for) so 3600W for two of these, that will be enough to go fast!

Brod, looking to use 6s2p packs.

Ed - no worries, more information the better:) Good info on the connectors, currently have 4 mm, having replaced the dare i say it (tamiya plugs).

Unfortunately the wire i'm using is 14ga, but none the less did see an increase in performance. Additionally soldering skills were improved, and with the use of a pen blow torch some nice connections:)

Think i'm getting there now with my next purchases, complicated stuff this boating!

agree about 10awg wires over 12awg but gawd they are a b*tch to work with!

for what I've seen in 25years of scale model (car, plane, giant scale and giant glider towing, heli...) this is far the most difficult!!!

EDIT : there's a very cheap one here, 6S max but worth to try! The prog. instruction seems to be the same as for my cheap 100A that I'm using on my 29" mono, I got it from ebay seller Swang, really good stuff for the money!

Fast R/C boats are a royal PITA compared to airplanes and scale. I have flown r/c airplanes since the 60's and never have I had the difficulties in figuring out all the variables involved. BUT, boats, now that's a different matter. Everything has to work together such as prop, strut angle, etc. Add the electric component and the mysteries go off the charts!
