    Cat setup

    Hi All,

Would firstly like to say a thankyou to everyone that's helped me so far, and how friendly people are on this forum.

    So to my query.

I have a 41" cat (mhz Isiklar) and after chatting to a few people i've been advised that the feigao 580 l could be a good motor to install. (Looking to install two).

Anyway i'm aware that there are many cat experts on here so wanted you opinions on a good setup, lipos etc.

I currently have two 90 amp etti esc's (which i know i'll prob need to change soonish) but considering this what sort of lipos should i run. I'm considering running two packs in series on each motor, idea being that the volts stay high but the amps wont pop the esc.

Also what size props should i run?

Would 4x 4s packs do it at say 2200mah? Do two 4s in series equate to 1 8s?

Any info would be great, hope to hear from you all:)

    Cheers

    Matt

A few questions Matt running two motors on a cat is cool but expensive, are you looking for sport or balls to the wall running, what speed, what run time. The battery Mah you are suggesting will not cut it and neither will the ESC . What is your budget excluding the radio.

    Edit

I am rereading your battery question would that be 2 2S1P 2200 Mah batteries per motor in parallel or series or 4 2S1P in series per motor and what C rating?

I run a twin drive cat(Toysport Jolly) 8xl's, Castle 240's for ESC, 4s Lipo to each setup & Octura X442 props counter rotating!

My cat is 34.5 inches long so these props work great. You may find you need to step up to X447's but this will almost certainly effect what Esc's you use!

Our biggest problem with running twins is prop selection --- there aren't that many out there!

        Douggie,

Looking for speed (don't mean to be a boy racer) but in saying that want something that can still be controlled.

Two motors makes it lots more expensive but this is a project which i willing to spend the time and money on. This isnt to say that i have piles of cash lying around, if only:) so i have to be relatively sensible..

Battery question was probably a little confusing, new to lipo so not sure of the correct terms. Basically i was trying to work out the best cells to use if i opted for a 580 motor. Now its advised that this will run 8s, not sure that i want to run this high to start.

Is the 580 motor the better one to go for also?

Also esc was a consideration but seems that a new one/two is a must:S

        Cheers

        Matt

I went a little overboard on the ESC's but my intentions are to move up to Neu motors so I went with the 240's

Although with my oldest starting college in the fall - I may have to rethink the Neu's!

                Thanks Douggie,

What will performance be like then?

                Also what does 6s2p mean:S

Could i get away with something a little less? then work up to your suggestion:)

                Cheers

                  Matt 6S2P 20C 5000 mah is 6 cells @ 3.7v = 22.20v amperage is 5000 x2 = 10000 Mah if the batteries were 30C .....5000 x3 = 15000 MAh

You have a large boat and you need power and grunt. There is no real cheaper solution unless you go with a single drive and it is also costly

The Castle 240's are now 254.00 each so a little pricey!
Back when I picked them up I got them from Castle with a Veterans discount so they were considerably cheaper!

If you are Vet I believe they still offer the discount just to fax a copy of your DD214!

Castle has been very good to our active servicemen as well to us Veterans!

ETTI's are good ESC's but the lower voltage you'll use, the higher amp you'll draw to get the same power, you need at least 200A ESC's on this boat!

Fingers crossed when i got it all it flys:)

                            2 of these;MR-3680-1600V2SE-5;

                            run with 2 of these;

run on 6s2p would be a very powerful setup.
I have both products, good quality motors and esc's.
this set up will be going in my 42" Hydro this winter..

                              Brod thanks for the info.

Im in the uk so could be tricky getting the motors, would you say their better than feigao?

                              Thanks
