    Out of the box thinking.

    It started here
    http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ead.php?t=8352

    This boat is from here

Gerwin advises me that the designer Ralf Schnipkoweit is a clever bugger indeed. (my words, not his)I want to discuss fast hull forms.

Hydros. We have Shovel, pickle, ventilated or multi-wing then the outrigger. The lines get a little blurred at times but the fundamental difference is the aerodynamic lift component. Shovel has lots, rigger has little to none. There now we have done with hydros, for now.

Cats. Long+narrow+deep for OS running through to short wide and shallow for OPC tunnels. Stepped or not they have many things in common.
Now lets take a look a this offering from Heiko Danz. I like the out of the box thinking and will do something similar myself soon. He has taken a cat and a pickle hydro and washed them together. Very clever in my mind

I am keen to play with this idea and have come up with a few constants.
Front sponsons, riggers and hydros have them so will this new hull
Rear suspended by the prop(s) . See above.
Now it all goes west fast. I will do a twin drive taking Heiko’s idea of a Cat/hydro and the knowledge that I have gained for doing a Twin-cat and put the whole lot together in a small package. 20-22”

I will soon get some sketches together and look at layouts and the pitfalls that may occur.
This will certainly be biggest challenge since my Canard design/build.

Given that the Canard is running high 30’s low 40’s on 2S, 540-8S then I am happy and confident that I can do a mixed-up hydro on twins !!

    NOTE.
This WILL NOT be a rules debate on what can and can not be run in sanctioned events. I do not give a primates testical what is legal/allowed/accepted etc.
    This is R&D time !!

The half catamaran-half hydro is not designed by Heiko Danz.
Ralf Schnipkoweit designed the 50/50 boat :-)

Now that is how I look at it !!
I am ploting the basics on a sheet of paper.
Front sponsons with motors enclosed but accessable
Long wire drive to the rear.
Struts mounted on ??? A transom off the aft wing, the bottom of an aft wing, the transom of a long sponson.

Imagine a ventilated hydro hull like this
        http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ead.php?t=8171
        scroll to post 24

Minimalise the center tub/hull, run twin shafts out of each sponson rear and this will be getting close.

Gerwin, I have altered the first post in regards to the designers name. To me all the Dutch designers are clever Buggers !

            Take a Cat with steps.
Give it one step only forward of the cg and we are getting close to a full bodied hydro.
Poke holes in the deck and call it a twin wing, make the front wings real small and call it a rigger. It still has those front two sponsons and is supported at the rear by the prop.

Take a single stepped mono, this is now close to a two point hydro.

A very clever man has mixed the cat and hydro together. He was first and I will have a go now.

The sketches below show the minimum 2 hulls I will need. The penciled in deck area is possible layouts.

Remember this will be small. 18-22"

Simon, that looks like the Budweiser T4 (vented Hydro)
                and

That is the style I am thinking about.
Thin down the centre section to a smoother look and we are close.
A pair of Mysteries in there and things could get fun on 3S lipo and 430L/R props.

Drag / Saw style runs only. No water cooling anywhere.
                  Eye pleasing stuff for me.

maybe a stupid question but do the vertical rear wings do anything on a hydro or are they just for looks

Here's a dumb thought. What if you placed the motors in the front sponsons and had the props exit from there as well?

Sorry didn't see the drawings before but the props could still exit from the sponsons instead of the transom. Would make for a very interesting sight to see. especially when the roost comes from the sponsons instead of the transom.

I really like the looks of that 26"cat Phsycocat EVO.....do they have a site that is USA that I can read
plus that inline rudder strut drive shaft assembly looks awesome
