    Powering up a 70" mono

I`m about to power up one of my monos with electric stuff. It is a 70" mono ment for 35 cc gas. http://www.noddv180.no
My first thought was a Lehner 3080/12 on 12S, but a vice guy told me that a NEU 2230-1Y would be a way better choise.
On the LMT motor I was thinking of a Propshop 7016 propeller, but it might be too big? And what about the propeller on NEU? Running at 12S on NEU I will have about 31000 rpm, and that is way too much for a 7016 prop.

I don`t have the needed experience on electric so far, so I`m asking those of you that have good experience...
    Thanks

I run a 3080 12T in my Rio 51 and it moves it nicely on 10S. Never tried 12S. Its a brute of a motor and should handle the job. What speeds are you looking for?

Well, actually I`m looking for electric stuff that beats the *!***!***!***!** out of 35 cc. Interesting to try out something new, but so far my experience on electric is very limited...
For sure I will do some smaller boats with electric as well, but big size electric are awesome

I haven't seen anyone around that's built a 70" boat. Most all of them are in the 50" or so range. Running Neu 2215's or 2230's. It will be interesting to see how you end up and the performance. Good Luck.

                  Hello Joern

I can't understand why your friend told you that the Neu is way better , The 12T Lehner would be more suited for such a large boat.....I disagree with your friend , I have a Neu 2230/1Y , 2230/1.5Y and a Lehner 3080/7 which can be run as a 12T also . The Neu 2230/1Y is a powerfull motor but 3080/12 will have more torque and could easily spin a 70mm prop on 12C . Always start smaller with props and work your way up and since a 70' boat will be on the heavy side it will put a significant load on your motor . A 60mm prop would be a good place to start then work your way up ( WITH THE 2230/1Y )

I run nothing but the big stuff

                  Apache 57' with a Lehner 3080/7........run in 12T mode
                  Stealth 49' with a Neu 2230/1.5Y
                  DF Sniper 45' with a 2230/1Y

Please post some pictures of your boat build

Thanks for sharing your experience! You may see one of my Nodd`s at www.noddv180.no The green one is mine, powered with CMB 35RS. I was thinking of a carbon hull for the electric set up, the bare hull weight is about 5 kg.
It was Chris Fine that told me to use NEU instead of Lehner. I guess I have to buy both motors and make my own experience as usual
But for sure it is nice hear what other people have experienced. It seems like we are talking about 2230 and 3080.... BTW, is it enough with a CCHV 240 ESC? Or should I go for the new monster from Schulze 40.300
We have also made a new boat last winter, actually you can see some videos at our teamsite www.yellowwhiteheads.no when we made the prototype.
http://www.yellowwhiteheads.no/html/ywh_design.html The latest NODD mark V-130 is 51" and I believe I will make an electric version of this boat as well.

I would take what Peter states to the bank...Chris Fine, to the best of my knowledge has no 70" boat experience and only listen to people that have run large hulls.

LOL, you just HAVE to buy them, what a dillema, hehehhehe.
Joern, these are huge! they even look big in the video!!! Very cool.
I'd say, if you can get the 40.300 go for it, it'll give you the cushion needed
for such big motors, the Lehner 3080 has a sweet spot at around 150amps, so you'd not
                        be overdoing it...

I personally would not touch a CC240 on such a large boat , the Schulze 40/160 would be my minimum and yes it wouldn't hurt to have the 40/300 , you are looking at a near 30 pound boat or even heavier when done . My Apache is 32 pounds RTR with 2P12C5000 battery packs

CF probably told you that because he had the Neus in stock and could deliver them. His delivery/ communication leads much to be desired. Opp's, there I go again, I'll shut up now.

With my math skills that was my first thought as well...

I have received some good info here, thank you very much!
If I have to buy two motors they are not waisted anyway since I have a lot of hulls available.
It is nice to get experience on electric now, so I have something to do when I become an adult

I was hoping to stay below 22 pounds as the boat with 35 cc and 50 oz fuel is about 30 - 31 pounds. But we will see, you may very well be right.
