Tell you what compare the 1415/1.5y with the medusa 3680 kv of 1600. That would be a very fair comparison by your standards.

    1415/1.5y 36X70mm 1550kv

36x80 1600kv medusa I would love that comparison also.

Seems fair to meby the earlier standards that were passed on.

Again no contest in a monster truck setting. There is no 70mm motor that will run with this motor if it is a 36mm diameter motor.

I was just reporting my experience. I bought the motor after talking to one of the engineers at medusa. He figured it would compare favorably to the 1509, it didn't. If you have a medusa combo that works for you, that's great. The motor I was pointed to just didn't get the job done.

The 1415/1.5y would likely walk on the 36-70-1600 even though the neu gives up a 15% mass advantage to the medusa. The 1415 uses the same rotor as the 1515 but with a redesigned stator stack. It doesn't lose the torque you would expect with 4mm less overall diameter. Actually, judging from my test of the two smaller motors the 1415/1.5y and the 36-80-1600 would probably be pretty well matched even with the extra 10mm and 100 grams of mass going to the medusa.

The modern brushless plets are nice motors. In fact once you get into that price range, it's very hard to get a bad motor.

None of this really matters as far as racing goes. Most of the racing at this point is being done with $65 chinese made RTR motors. And the racing has never been better.

Here's another little hint: monster trucks aren't race boats. When I got into FE, I came from the F5D pylon world. I figured no way were these boats pushing equipment as hard as our FAI airplanes, wrong. Boats are hands down the nastiest thing you can ask an electric motor to push. Trust me, I've played with every type electric toy you can get in this hobby.

I have a simple question... What is the disposition against the Neu's? Sure the price isn't as friendly, but they perform and are proven!

I too am pro a CHEAPER motor that will perform. But I will opt to pinch my pennies for something I know that will perform better and cooler and more effeciently, UNTIL there is a cheaper motor that is PROVEN up to par as the Neu.

Here is one take on the neu thing.
Seems when fe races everyone shows up with the same motors, same escs, 1-3 or so different hulls, probably the same prop but also tweeked to specs of the owner, and the same size battery probably one of 3 or so brands.
How much fun is that? I mean what is the challenge other than setup and driving it becomes a cookie cutter class or classes.
Nitro and Gas have more variety in hulls by a buttload. I can think of at least 6-8 different quality gas dvs, 4-8 quality thunderboats, 4-5 different cats, in stock class there is the zenoah, the sikk, and the rcmk for engines, in nitro its cmb, mac, ops, and sometimes an os max even.
So what is the fun in everyone using all the same equipment? I don't see that a much fun, therefore I will remain a sport boater. Running the same stuff is like "kissing your sister", not much of a charge in that one!!
THe sport desperately needs some variety in equipment especially motors. I am going to use only the align outrunners,(a no name for sure), and medusa until something else comes along.
In fact if someone has a plettenberg that is comparable in output to the Neu 2215 I own, I 'll trade you straight across. Let me know on that one with some pics and lets get the bartering going.

I understand the search for alternative motors. That's why I looked into the Medusa in the first place.

I'm testing a Feigao 580L 6T for use in P classes (7T may be better in a mono). So far it is working very well. I'm getting performance similar to a 1521. There's a weight and size penalty, but it's also $120.

I always thought tuning and driving were the challenge. That's the main reason the racers are having so much fun with the spec classes.

Thats the whole thing about racing, setup and driving! How is this different in any spec racing? NASCAR is strictly restricted to certain specs, but setup and driving are up to the teams, that why racing is racing. Whats the point of high horsepower drag car racing a 18 second truck? Thats why there are specs and classes. It makes for COMPETITIVE racing.
