Here's a video starting with a viable unlimited concept that encompases what can be a real possibility for a scale guy with SAW aspirations such as myself coming from a real unlimited boat expert. I could build this and it could be in at least the sport hydro class. See the active wing surface on the boat and a good explanation about shapes, ground

      Hi Hubert,

for real, do you know how old this video is ? Ron Jones was a great hydroplane designer. But for true his doublewing design failed , you know the results of the Bud double wing . His second wing at the transom is to close to the water surface. The Winston Eagle has a higher mount rear wing that is most free from ground effect. The problem of a wing in ground effect is that the c. g. has a fixed position. But the center of aerodynamic lift is traveling forward and backward belong to the flying high. This is the main reason that most boats using lift of a wing in ground effect do easy flip. Going faster and the center of aerolift is traveling forward and it is lifting the boat now way to counter this force. The most intresting design that matters for a wing in groundeffect is the relation of wing span and wing cord. A hydroplane has a very short wing span and a very deep wing cord. If the cord is very deep the traveling of the center of aero lift is very big . A little more flying high and the center of lift is traveling a long distance. This is what we realy do not want. We want that this lifting force is best not traveling. This is not possible , but with a boat design that has less wing deep of the cord and more span we will get a less problematic boat. And the second thing that will help to protect a hydroplane from fliping is to set the second tail wing in a position where this ground effect will less or better not occur. So sorry but realy ground effect plane do this rules use and they do not flip. A water plane with normal wing and tailwing layout have less problem to start and landing on water if this design rules are used. And if you give such planes a closer look , you will see it. So wy not look for a boat design that makes complett use of such design rules ?
I show you some years ago some drawings for a SAW boat that is very close to it. Was in the days when we had the forum with Jim Allan.
If i would build a hydroplane for straight way speed i would build a Winston Eagle Lobster boat , with more narrow sponson and a wing section with symetric wing profile like the MH54 from speedairplane that wing has to be positioned where the c.g. for the airplane has to be.And the rear stabiliser wing has it right place where it is , so far in the back and so high as possible. And the small front sponson holder has to be a small , adjustable downforce wing.
      So,lets look for some pics

Do you Lucas? THE AMERICAN U BOAT LEGEND of an American pastime ru serious.... yeah He passed at 84 in 2017 and I rather expand on the true Unlimited pioneers work that built over 500 of them than hack that Russian crap that requires a pilot they scrapped for nuclear subs and sit in in my pool. As a real builder of scale boats and still really building I know exactly how to modify any "boat" to do what I want. Take your drawings and bring them into fruition yourself. That's the deal. I have thrown all the half cocked plans away as I don't need the enormous hassle associated everyone saw here. I want to enjoy my life and my boats so I have removed all my problems thereof . U should share your eastern based ideas with the highly competitive German sailors. I'm far too dumb to comprehend the highly complex prints anyway. Certainly they can build it if they think it has merit. It wont touch my hands....ever. You look for pics. I don't have time as I already know I'm not using anything just posted . You have a T4 that needs this work u so u can begin. U are very knowledgeable about what worked and failed in real U boats as u suggest the lobster Certainly it had to be the most successful real u boat of all times but anyway.... I'm also confident you have no evidence that aerodynamics were at the root of the boats problems. I'm sure thats simply conjecture from you coz u already think you are halfway smarter that everyone here including Ron Jones even though you have never built a true scale hydroplane or even really know the American rules. A better answer from a dumb man like me is because of the newly imposed fuel restrictions at the worst timing the boat would fall in the corner just like the T4. It lacked power which would be needed with a heavier wing loading. This again speaks to the importance of power even with superior aerodynamic design. Were never at a lost for power in RC so find out why it failed before you talk sht on a design legend that knows quite a bit more about these boats than you do sir. His influence as prescribed in the video is all over the modern hydros and they work a helluva lot better than anything REDS built for Unlimited hydroplane racing. Open your didactic eyes for the full picture. He was right the power was wrong!!!!!

Mr Jones gets it when it comes to unlimited hydroplanes that's why hes the legend and I feel very confident to build off his ideas into the future.

Good luck with your boats and high level friends. There wont be any war nor any truce. It is so eternal you can write it on my tombstone! Jim's last name is spelled "Allen". He's given up all but three boats, focuses exclusively on IC powerplants and cares absolutely nothing about any of this.

        1B.

The question is does an expert know how much the t55 has progressed in efficiency and power since then? Find those photos. Also make sure you know that a modern FE scale with Lehner or NEU power does not need a center section ram wing at all. There could be no MH54 and it be symmetrical at the same time. The mh 54 is a true airplane airfoil . Its not symmetrical Lucas. It has lift even at 0 degrees angle of attack . A modern saw boat would really have no use for that to be quite honest. The "symmetrical" airfoil at a 0 AOA should not make lift and I actually suggested that to you several emails ago when you showed me your T4 go check.

Have you ever thought and look back as you talked about the Hughes spruce goose? It was made out of spruce and birch. Do you really think it was that light? Do you ever wonder how severely it likely lacked power? Do you see the engineering marvel? It's ironic how smooth it was just off the water. Do you think anything was learned from this so called failure?

          Hmmm...

          Regards,
          Hubert.

Make sure you really know about these unlimited boats before you talk . The T4 (your boat) was originally constructed in 1994 as the futuristic two-wing T4 for the Budweiser team, but the design was quickly outdated by rules surrounding fuel-flow to the powerful turbine engines. The problem with these boats has never been there aerodynamic design. As soon as the boats were built they starved them out by regulating the fuel delivery. Were also talking about SAW not oval so technically I really don't have to be concerned with what a boat would do in a corner. Not that lack of power would ever be an issue we had anyway. And still it is one of the most attractive Bud hulls ever made. In scale boats Style is also important to us. If the wings have flat bottoms all you have to do is glue balsa to the bottom and form a foil profile that matches the topside. If you are truly skilled building a scale you could cut it away and put it back at a lower AOA. The Real unlimited builders (U-8 team) brought and transformed the T4 to a conventional unlimited. Can you do that?

A true genius could also create the active canard system that respond better than any sailors feet on pedals. You see them they are symmetrical. The Spruce Goose was 150 TONS and until 2019 it was the largest aircraft ever built! It was going to be a military transport. So yes I say the soviets took lessons from Hughes design and give the world the ekranoplane and had it slated for the same exact purpose. LOL!

Scratchbuilding from wood isn't for the inexperienced 1/8th scale modeler and its a lot of work. It is truly building a boat and not just installing running hardware. The scratchbuilt hull features a low profile Jones style sponsons. A move away from its native Lucero sytle. The tunnel is very shallow and the ram airfoil has a low profile leading edge. The low profile Ram airfoil also has camber. Big turbine air scoops look cool but don't help with SAW so at least one boat will not have a fully enclosed cockpit. I believe I will settle on the U-10 Miss Tosti Asti for such a boat. I prefer the low profile cowl versus a Pak. The best Lobster and T4 are available as laser cut kits so their construction may take a week or 2 at the most if I'm pushing. Not worried about those boat as of yet. And of course a mans scratch built boat means more to him than any kit boat or glass hull. Simple boats like Atlases and u-55 Obertos make good SAW 1/8th scales because many have no wings and a smooth cowls from front to back with no big air scoops. Here's a photo of one complete from Steves site. The inside edge of the sponsons on my boat are totally different.

Also make sure you know this is not a U31 the Oliver sales. The t plus / circus is an entirely different boat. You see the lifting airfoil "focused at the cg" vs the nose like your boat and the other H&M . The only place I've seen this hull is roger Newton plans. This boat has to be scratch built.

That said. I think I will settle on this for a 3rd boat u say is wrong.

                      Hi,
but as you see all the designe cut the cord of the wing section , make it shorter . The T4 Bud use the reverse delta wing of Alexander Lippisch but do not build the full design that Lippisch construct. He has a big , high set tail wing for stabilisation. https://www.screamandfly.com/showthr...-Years/page164 , this was for Mercury outbord motors tested at Lake X in Florida. Have you ever ben at lake x ? no, but i have with Micheal Werner testing his tunnelboat.
If some has it he can have a stable boat that dosnˋt flip , but it can start to fly higher with a airpropeller or a jet engine. So nothing new in your pipe.
I show you the two latest designs of Ron Jones. The blue hydroplane the mother of thr Bud T4 and the Tunnelhull , yes there is only a short tunnel under the wing , as the wing has short cord with this small span. And it has a high stabiliser wing far behind the boat and it has two long sponson like tunnel hull have.
The MH54 is full, symetrical airplane profile , i know Dr. Hepperle personaly . He worte a spezial Datafile for highspeed airplane for us.

See some more hydroplane with more airplane aproach , i bet you do not know who the designer are .
First the design for Boatspeedrecord and the other for formula 1 outbordracing with twin counter propellers for inshore oval racing course.

Have fun , and donˋt forget to instal a gopro camera in your boat , so we can see the blow over . you can than make a blow over complication to place at youtube .

                        Hi,
so here i show you the hydroplane from Fabio Buzzi. He set some worldspeedrecords for petrol engine boats with this hull and he won the legend race Pavia to Venice with this hydroplane mostly driven on the river Po in Italy .As the river has not only right turns he has mounted rejakt tun fins to turn right and left same possibility. He also set the front wingsection close to the main wing , but see the pic they will help you as you are a beginner boater.

Ron Jones, Fabio, and I know a mh54 is not a symetrical airfoil expert of all things . Nice autograph. I hope you learned something about unlimited hydroplanes in the time you shared with him..Ekranoplane to failed Lobster to Fabio autograph an his boats Since you have the manual fixing yours by completeing the simple task of mounting the horizontal stabilaizers and actually shaping them to a aerfoil shouldn't be so daunting.Gosh you can cut each wing section out at a time and reset it's AOA b4 moving one to the next. Come on ME. These are things you actually need to do to your boat not mine.

We're already at Jones designs glad you decided to join in but thats still the wrong one. This is the last time I show you the boat that I am going to build . If you cannot get it thats on you.

                              Hi,
i am not in a competition , i just run my hydroplanes for fun. My last hydroplane i run in a competition was in the NAVIGA 12 cell nimh class at F?ssen where i took the first place and note this boat run against outrigger in oval racing.
So we are waiting to see your hydroplane run to minimum 90 mph but as you told us you want the record and you have to deliver , no more and no less. I think 60 mph will be a great step for a beginner boater like you , show it.

Fun running?..... between the margins or from one end of pool to the other? What a blast! Not my fault u aren't in your element with active modelers anywhere. If you ever actually ran those dusty shelf queens youd know how antiquated it all is. Im actually building a boat right now. I realize you are there in bayern bored on your sofa. I understand you file through your naviga history books and post that online everywhere. I know all about your" fun running" and the real quest to design a SAW boat for 10 years now. We've seen it all including the "fun run" carbon tube with 8kW that was suppose to run in 2018. You just resposted it here as if its new and as usual the response "when do we see it run?" answer "never" LOL. Other than the H&M I don't think you own a boat made in this millennia. Look... I have better things to do like build a run my boat. The floor is in and I'm working on the cowl now. Im mounting the motor in the other boat an preparing it for a test run.

                                Keep dreaming....
