Meniscus, here's what I have so far. Still need to chamfer the leading edges. Let me know what you think or if I am way out to lunch! LOL

Well, I think you followed my dimensions exactly! I am concerned that we are working on a different plane by 90 degrees.

I could be wrong about your picture and where you are going, so please correct me if I'm not getting it. When I mentioned 4" in length, that would be the same plane as the 10.5" measurement for the sponson. Thus the swept back design. In my original specs, I stated 7/8" depth in the water while on plane.

Now, I'm hoping I'm just reading the picture wrong. In any case, I'm feeling bad about having you help me with this. Especially with my poor description without taking the time to even sketch a drawing. However, I am thinking I must be tired after getting the engine back into my truck, or at least mated to the transmission, and I'm not getting the picture.

All I have to say is "wow" at your attention to the angles and specs. You must have far more patience than I have!

will it have a bracket like this one from Fullers?

If not, where is the mounting stock? I thought in the original, the fin was swept back a bit? Just curious!

It looks like someone has been on one of the Japanese websites as they run their sponsons way out on their 'riggers and big mufflers.
With the rough water that they run in, the wider stance gives them more stability, i.e., less side-to-side rocking.
If you go through the JMPBA site you'll see all kinds of odd looking boats but although they look weird to us, they do have some clever things going on. Use a translator like Babelfish AltaVista to read it in English. Some of the words translate a little funny though, rudder turns into ladder.

Yeah, I also watch what goes on on the German forums. Man, I feel like I'm playing catchup always.

The stability is exactly what I'm looking for. With the lightweight of this build, I'm concerned its going to dance and walk all around at full speed. I guess that's a good problem to have!

                  Meniscus,

Sorry been a little busy at work. I have laid out the turn fin, which has more of a angle. Right now I have it at about 60 degrees. and about 1.3" measured parallel between the leading edge and the trailing edge. Will try and take a pic for you to see before I cut it out.

No stress, I've been crazy busy at work as well.

Cool! I can't wait to see it!!!!!

Incidentally, I'm finishing up the fix on my truck today. I am planning on driving away tonight. Only problem is, now I'm going to have to fix my wife's car, LMAO! I just can't win. :)

Well, fixed wife's car and truck still a no go. I believe the PCM needs to be reprogrammed, but we'll see after some more testing this evening.

I'm waiting in anticipation and can't wait to see this thing! As time goes on and I'm thinking more about my build, I believe that this swept back turn fin is exactly what I need for what I'm going to be doing with it.

Truck is fixed! Now I can get back to the important stuff!

I'll be beginning work on this build starting again on Monday.

                            ti turn fin

                            Ben,

Here it is, all cut and the L/E sharpened. Just need to bend the fin. LMKWYT
I did not sharpen the leading edge too much because it is 0.04" Titanium and less drag than say a 0.08" - .100" thick turn fin.

                                it looks great you guys!
I have a question... how are you going to attach the fin to the hull?
Is the little "tab" on top the place for the screws or are you having
one or two screws further down as well? If you are planning only using
screws on the top tab then be really careful how you are attaching it to the
sponson, such small footprint to hold the fin may cause problems...
too much force on a little area, it'll rip it right off.
                                Just a thought.
Also, fins are usually sharpened only on the outside.
                                :::::::::::::::. It's NEVER fast enough! .:::::::::::::::
