OK, unless the world comes apart, I'll be providing dimensions and angles this evening!

Meniscus, please also provide a thickness and metal preference if you have something in mind. Thanks and I await patiently for your dims.

        Ok, here goes:

Thickness = 1/32" or maybe slightly thinner

        Footprint = 3/4" width by 1/2" height
(side mount style - along the longest length of the sponson)

Drop to water surface while on plane = 1/2" from bottom of footprint

Leading edge angle = 22 degrees
        Final angle = 10 degrees

Depth in water while on plane = 7/8"

Length = 4" to trailing edge

Curve/Hook depth = 5/8" with progressive degree angle (however you think)

Well, that's it. My best attempt at describing what I'm looking for. If you decide not to try to translate my jibberish, it's cool, LOL!

Oh, missed the metal preference question. I'm thinking...Titanium. J/K

I'll be happy with anything as long as its not excessively heavy and isn't too difficult for you to work with. As a side note, I have a buddy that has taken over the family business which is none other than a Titanium forge. So, if you need something along those lines, let me know!

            Westbeach,

So that you have an idea of what the sponsons look like, pictures can be found on my other thread: http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ead.php?t=5869 Post #25 on page 2.

Note, the two sponsons are not identical. The starboard sponson has an integral flat spot for mounting the turn fin. I think I'll post a picture in this thread pointing it out. If you need a better picture or a different picture, let me know!

                Okay Meniscus,

I think the fun is going to be the translation...I am going to try and draw this out and you can correct me if I am wrong or on track. Am going to have to hookup my old windows pc as I don't have a draw program on my mac. Please bear with me!

                          Meniscus,

I looked around the shop yesterday and found some 0.040" titanium sheet about a square foot of it. From reading your post, your rigger is around 20" long ( front of sponson to transom of tub?? ) I just need some clarification on the length (4" to trailing edge? ) I drew up some pics but am little lost in translation! ) The footprint size that is given, does it allow for the turn fin to a little wider than 3/4" below the sponson . Maybe you can give me some dimensions of the sponson ( length, height? ) Thanks

I can't believe that you found titanium! That's hilarious because I was kidding.

                            Here's some more info:

                            Sponson Length = 10.5" Height = 2"
                            Tub Length = 21.5"

Overall? Sponsons will be set forward, but not sure how much yet.
The 4" is the desired overall length of the turn fin. The turn fin can certainly be wider than 3/4". Whatever you think is appropriate, go for it!

Let me know if you need more info and I'll do what I can, LOL!

                            Thanks!!!

I have one of the original grimracers turnfins I got from Doug R (God rest his soul) years ago and it is still the best I have seen. Looks just like that one. Doug gave it to me and it made a difference especially on the LSH class we were running.

I still have it. I would stay with at least 80-100 thou. aluminum.
