One Delta Force 34 in the club runs surprisingly well up to 60 mph in rough water. It is difficult to pick a winner. For power a Neu 1521/1.5D (or equivalent) on 4S2P is tough to beat, the 1515 is too small IMO. I run converted water-cooled Castle aircraft controllers but in the larger hulls you could try the Castle Mamba controllers, several posters here have had good luck with them. An x450 is a good starting place, depending on the hull and how you run you could go up to an ABC 2016, perhaps bigger..
Thank you. The 1521 1.5D I never thought to use. Running it in a Vortex sounds like a nice idea.

. The number sounds heavy-ish but this boat should, given its air-traps and wide "armpits" air out and run light and loose with moderate power - remember when 1515 1Y's were the "go-to" P motor ? Thing is that a sport hydro needs to use its power potential not only to rip up the straights but to maintain velocity throughout the turn with the rudder & turnfin digging in. I have a motor in mind that should be perfect but other projects are taking priority at the moment.

Not really. Weight "feel" is relative. If one picked up a one-inch square object that weighed 4 lbs it would appear very heavy. The rather widebody Vortex at 34" subjectively feels, at 4lbs really light for its size. With decent power I think this boat will be a foray into the future of P-Sport Hydro as the current crop of highly respected but crazy fast 30" hulls morph into a more survivable length. Just a feeling I have......

I understand Tony. I thought my Cheetah would be a slug too but with a 1521 1.5D and a 452 it efficiently hauls the mail.

Frequently used heat race props for that setup are Octura M445 or M545. The 645 you asked me about in the PM will get you more speed. Are you looking for max speed in straightline runs or oval racing ?

Whip 20 will work in the rough stuff but you have to build it heavy. Like 9 or 10 pounds RTR. Then you need lower KV with a big prop.

All these hulls are good. Just a different approach with each to get where you want to go.

                            Langevn,

The FE30 was designed as a dedicated oval heat racer. There's an optimum speed (and prop window) for speeds on the oval course as has been mentioned. If going at max speed in a straight line is your cup of tea, finding that zone involves removing the turn fin and going up in prop size in small increments until something bad happens.

                            Then again,
