I've won trophies with the Whiplash & the ML GP310. So I should be bias toward them. I've also set up & run a Phil Thomas Stealth 20 but didn't really race it.
But If I were going to build another limited Hydro I would build an Insane 30 as Tony unbiasedly suggests.
Here in Australia we call it Restricted instead of Limited, & the specs are slightly different, but the Insane 30 is a rocket.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

I built a FE30 Yellow & Yellow , but all I get too do is look at it . Working 7 days a week with long hours till Mid Nov then will be retired after 36yrs , will have mega time for boating with my 5 boats . The FE30 is very very nice boat finish is superior and hull is built too last .

If you are running limited (LSH), you can't go wrong with the whip20, FE30, Phil Thomas Stealth, or ML. I've seen them all run with the best of them. Winning boats run in the 50-55mph range in the straights.

If you are running unlimited (Full P Hydro), and you want to heat race (rougher water), then you will need to build something slightly larger in my opinion. They run in the 65mph range, typically have high current draw, and cost considerably more. ML offers one. Randy is working on one, and then there is the one that I built: http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ort-Hydro-2015!

Tony built my FE30 and the boat is the most solid one I have. And still my favorite boat by a long way. 100km/h no prob (convert to mph at your leisure). But yeah a slightly larger hull around 37 - 40in would be ideal for the windier and slightly choppier lakes I have here. The petrol guys get me on a choppy day...... but come a glassy one...... :-)

Been on the lookout for a nice solid hull of that size for a while now.

For choppy water you will likely do better with a hull closer to 34". I have run the Insane and IMO it is really too small for rough water and 60+ mph. The Whips are okay but still struggle in the rough. There are several ML boats in my club and they run well in chop. One PT Stealth boat runs great in the rough but others struggle. One Delta Force 34 in the club runs surprisingly well up to 60 mph in rough water. It is difficult to pick a winner. For power a Neu 1521/1.5D (or equivalent) on 4S2P is tough to beat, the 1515 is too small IMO. I run converted water-cooled Castle aircraft controllers but in the larger hulls you could try the Castle Mamba controllers, several posters here have had good luck with them. An x450 is a good starting place, depending on the hull and how you run you could go up to an ABC 2016, perhaps bigger..

Jay's information comes from actual long-term experience; His club races in water so choppy that would send us SoCal sissies back to the quilting party. As for myself, I don't have a P-Sport class offered so the FE30 does fine in P-Ltd BUT I intend to build a HYPER P-Sport with the DF 34" Vortex just for max grins. TP Power & Swordfish 300 lite. FE30 next to the DF34 :

Nice Tony. Let us know how that build works out. I almost bit on a Df hydro but looked at the weight and thought, I'll never be able to push it with a 1515 1y and now you open my eyes up as to how I could have rigged it to work.

In our area of Canada choppy can be the norm in many places we run. You have me thinking.... Hmmmm....

                              Ray,

The DF hull weighs in on my scale at 4.0lbs. The number sounds heavy-ish but this boat should, given its air-traps and wide "armpits" air out and run light and loose with moderate power - remember when 1515 1Y's were the "go-to" P motor ? Thing is that a sport hydro needs to use its power potential not only to rip up the straights but to maintain velocity throughout the turn with the rudder & turnfin digging in. I have a motor in mind that should be perfect but other projects are taking priority at the moment.
