The pics on the Aeromarine boats typify the problem we have converting nitro boats to FE. The tubs are very shallow so it's hard to squeeze larger packs in there. Also, the boom tube spacing is such that everything has to go in the rear making the boats tail heavy.

I do like this discussion. Bigger FE riggers are a hoot to drive. Going fast is one thing but seeing that sucker carve a turn and hearing the turn fin tear through the water is a real rush! Whooping up on the nitro guys are an added bonus. Mike Luszcz is selling the Tunnel part of his business and is hoping to work on some rigger designs. Hopefully he will have some options for the FE community in the future.

Guys TKS ! this is a good discussion ..... I just got off phone with Randy from BBY, working on a single and a twin FG tub, CF lined, CF sponsons, 35", plenty of room for my 6S1P 65-130c...the single is about ready to ship, twin will be a bit longer...guess I started this search just at the right timing...I will do a build thread since its a new item...BUT pls dont stop this great discussion, I think its a topic that needs more discussion.... This was exactly my concern with setting up a Jae for "SAW" ...tks for you clarifying of this lipo space question....DJ

Joe Petro @ Zipp Kits can cut a slightly wider JAE tub, all you have to do is ask.

Personally I would try the JAE21. It will hold two 3S packs or a 4S and a 2S, although the CG may be a bit forward. The 2200 Kv motor is a SAW setup on 6S, loaded rpm around 40,000-42,000. OTOH the same boat on 4S can go plenty fast. Mine with a Castle 1415/1Y hits the mid-70s on the oval with 12-second laps - and averages just 105 amps while doing it. It is SO much fun to drive!

I considered using 6S in my JAE before I bought it, with the thought to reduce amp draw with the higher voltage. But I got a great deal on the Castle motor and wanted to use it in the rigger, so I went with 4S. Glad I did as several other club members have since gotten 4S riggers and I will be able to race with them.

Do Yall think the JAE can handle 100mph ?

On smooth water I concur. This is still a small boat.

I widened a JAE21 tub by a half inch so it could fit a 6600mah Thunderpower pack and a give me a bit more room for a 15xx Neu motor. It was one heck of a heat racer. Fast and could hang on the pins. I'm pretty sure a 6S 5000 pack would fit into it. Might want to consider something along those lines. Definitely best bang for the buck and a very easy build. You could easily do the tub and sponsons in less than a week.

Zippkits has a .45 nitro hull short kit, wonder what the dimentions are? Must be larger than a .21.

A widened .21 size is a far better bet for SAW applications.

Whether wood or composite you need to make sure it can survive a crash. Speeds above 80-100 are pretty tough, speeds over 100 are like hitting concrete. If you do choose a JAE make sure you reinforce the snot out of the hull and be willing to write off the entire boat as soon as you drop it in the water. I recommend against any hull that cannot float on its own without its sponsons. Using a small hull packed to the brim with electronics has a high likelihood of sinking in a crash. A 1515 1Y with a decent controller is plenty with the right prop to hit 100.

Randy Naylor can likely produce you a composite 6S tub with SAW specific sponsons. I know he has both a 4S and 6S version of his rigger.
