I learned these lessons the hard way years ago:

    - Polarize the connectors on your batteries/ESCs. This helps to prevent fried ESCs and shorted packs.
    - When plugging in your packs, do not talk to anyone to minimize distractions. Otherwise you will eventually plug things in wrong...
    - Always range check a new boat in the water. Checking only on land only tells you it works on land. Water is different.
    - Don't skimp on hatch tape. Saving $0.05 by reusing it can cost you a $250 controller.
    - Use a battery checker to make sure you actually charged that particular pack while in the heat of racing...
    - Always check the direction of prop rotation prior to taping up. Just a quick blip of the throttle can save you a lot of time and grief.
    - Always solder caps on your motor tabs to prevent radio interference...oh wait....

That's funny right there. Wonder how many will have no idea what you're referring to. haha

I never thought of range checking in the water. I like that idea.

Here's a few more off the top of my nugg.
      • Tape tape tape. Your innovative rubber/foam/screw down hatch seal is going to fail. That lid is just FRP. Meaning fiber reinforced plastic. It's "plastic". Plastic is flexible. So the seal will fail more often than not. Many many have been there and done that. Use the danged tape like the guys with many moons of experience do. Make a sub hatch if you're that concerned about the look.
      • Pool noodles and/or pipe insulation make better floatation than just about anything else. Spray foam will retain water if it even cures. Pour foam is heavier than noodles.
      • There is no need to spool up to max rpm on the bench. Only bad things can happen.
      • If your boat is falling off your work bench/table/tailgate/engine compartment.............let it go. Trying to catch it is horrible. Like catching a bag of butcher knives.
      • Don't swim for your boat/hatch/prop/battery. It's just a toy. Expensive sure but still not as important as you are. Find a diver if it's irreplaceable.
      • At a big race.............drink tons of water. You'll forget. I know I do. I end up in trouble by day 2.

When going from 4S1P to 4S2P, make sure to parallel the 4S2P setup ; if hooked up accidentally in series be sure to notify local FAA office and have a reserve chute on a third channel to deploy to ease re-entry prior to punching the throttle.

When charging a setup that includes more than one pack make sure you are charging both packs and not just one on "solo" with the Hyperian. The next run will injure the pack you did not charge. Ty did this to me twice at the nats.

haha Pete. Never let hot women convince you to eat a few dozen jello shots and chase them with coconut rum the night before a race either.

letting someone else drive my boat. he was 10 yrs old...probably not the best idea. After he destroyed my props 3 years ago I learned how to do them myself, so something good came out of it.

If you sharpen turn fins like you do your props, they will filet a finger just as fast Trust me I know this first hand

if your prop shaft threads are worn out, use blue loctite or replace. lost a good prop couple weeks ago. didnt loctite the threads " it will be ok just this one time " nope.

Make sure you put the discharged battery in a different location or put a sticker to mark it. I had four identical 4s batteries to run one day, and two runs were done on the same battery, good battery it is ---Grim Racer 5000mah pack. needless to say, when I brought it in , only 6% was left. I haven't tested it yet, but I curse myself for doing something so stupid.
Too many boats, not enough time...

If the fail safe bumps to full throttle when you test it. It's a lot cheaper to not run than to run it into the dock.

If your pit man has gone to a Jimmy Buffet concert the night before the race, make sure your boat is clearly labeled before he throws it in for the mill
