    The "Live and Learn" thread

I wanted to start a thread that would kind of help us all. Posting our mistakes, whether be funny or not. Something you learned a lesson on and can pass on to the next guy. You know, that one time you were a little lazy or in a hurry and said, ehh...it'll be ok for this time. You all know what I'm talking about! Lol
So here's mine I'll begin with.

When I built my rivercat I didn't put clips on all the cooling lines. I guess really just the easy ones to get to. Well none on the rudder or through transom fitting either. Well as the boat got faster, lines started popping off. First the one on the rudder. So it should have dawned on me to put them everywhere else.....nooooooo of course not. So today while I was running my hull started to fill up because the one inside the transom at the filling started leaking. Too much pressure at that speed. I could have lost my boat! Moral...I won't do that again!

    Thanks for starting this thread!
On the other hand, you now belong to a different league. I would never need them clips
It is amazing how the pressure grows as the speed increases, Mark F told me a similar story with his SAW boat. I think he had clip or ziptie, but it kept popping off. Now, he is a fast guy!
Too many boats, not enough time...

don't ever touch a prop while batteries are plugged in. holding my radio under my arm, it slipped, so to avoid dropping it i clenched my arm tighter. bad mistake. hit throttle while my finger was you know where. nice sharpened and balanced prop vs. finger.... guess which won?

I lost a hatch on two different boats on two weekends a fortnight apart. Why? Because I simply didn't tape them down before I launched the boats. Did I have foam in the hatches? No. Did I feel stupid? YES.
On both occasions I had prepped 3 or 4 boats with batteries & shafts etc & placed the hatches on. Got all the hatches taped down except one. Got called away from my table to help someone with a problem or some such thing. Came back to my table after 5 or so minutes grabbed the boat threw it in without realising the hatch wasn't taped & off flew the hatches when the boat reached full speed.
Same scenario both times. I'm getting old.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

Small zip tie's work well to. I started seeing this when the boats started going over 60mph, but it can happen at any speed.

Make sure no grease makes it into your collet or you will lose your driveshaft and prop...

I have another. Do not tape/velcro a gps to the outside of your carbon hull boat. You WILL lose it. Lol

I forgot to hold a prop tight one day when removing it, take a free guess at door #1... lol
Have lost an entire shaft/prop by putting it in the water hose to clean it off, shot about 20 feet.....
I have forgot to connect a couple of coolin' lines before... I was wondering why my boat was getting lower and lower and lower...lol
Forgot to turn the TX off, I now use Energizer rechargeable batteries!
I'm sure I will be back at this thread.... Hope Not!
Why are you bothering me? I want to see your boat!

Never eat 4 dozen muscles while at Pike Street Market. They're fantastic but that's apparently too many. At least for me it is.

Always make sure your cooling hoses are connected inside the hull after hooking up batteries or a crash. A hull can fill with water rather quickly when water is dumping inside instead of overboard.

Also, always look for the cooling water stream as the boat passes the dock. A plugged cooling system causes things to heat up fast!

Lol that's a sickening amount of muscles.
                            Shame on you.

It was not pretty, and thankfully I didn't lose any digits. Any time I see someone touching a prop with batteries plugged in, I cringe at the thought of my thumb.
