For me I've been racing RC on a track of some kind, for most of my life. Love 1/8 GT racing 3 or 4 cars wide down a long straightaway into a hard 90° turn.
Or clearing a double, then over a triple jump with my truggy. Never did a speed run with my cars or trucks, but I tell ya the first time I saw a boat doing 100mph, I said oh that's for me!
I haven't felt nervous or had butterflies running RC since I was 9 years old. But everytime I take out one of my boats there's that feeling, line it up, take a deep breath, roll on to the throttle, and hold on! I've missed that feeling in RC for a very very long time.

If they don't, they will surely hit a ceiling well before someone who does.

No. Gotta check facebook and take selfies. No time for long runs.

How are you going to run for 4 minutes at 60mph without stopping to turn around? Do you have any idea how far away your boat would be?

        My .02:
I'll race in any format. SAWs and 2-lap time trials is where I get to really push my knowledge and equipment, it's the racing format where I learn the most about tuning and setup. Heat racing has a different personality and is fun in different ways. The different disciplines aren't for everyone, but each has it's own lessons for the racer.

I personally like to turn my boats at WOT, so I don´t see myself going straight both ways---hmmm, that sounds funny,
But as said, I also like speed, so for my own amusement I do whatever I enjoy at the moment, I spend so much time here at the Forum because I want to learn and when I am not by the pond, this is also a fun thing for me to do, including reading all the nonsense.
When I am ready to race, it will be oval.

Great answers guys. All positive too. My faith is restored.

Terry I wish I could get the local guys together and test your proven theory of stick to a few good classes. They are all over the place so we never accomplish anything.

Maybe we need to burn it down locally and start all over. Would be nice.

There are a lot of videos of german boats going 115+ mph. I was always interested in speed up to a certain point but watching a boat go over 100 is just incredible, something that has to be seen to fully grasp. A lot of people can get a boat running at a decent clip but 100+ with multiple runs idk man, once you see one run well the money spent doesn't matter and you'll be building another.

A lot of the SAW people run by themselves so running oval gets boring real quick for them. Have a few friends with boats though and you'd be crazy not to buy a few aquacraft revolts or something at the least.

Different strokes for different folks. SAW passes are cool, just as a nicely tuned oval boat is cool. I like both diciplines.

Oh not to worry. You are not alone by any stretch. Sport guys still out number us roundy heads by a huge margin. bet it's 10 to 1 easy.

Jay's right. Run boats, be safe, and have fun. Not necessarily in that order. I like to put fun at the front myself.

If any of you are even thinking about racing give it a whirl. If it sucks go back to sport'n about. Try SAW too. Why not? You might totally dig that.

Keith, not 4 minutes in one direction ya lunatic. haha That's funny man.

Think of racing like bacon. Bacon is ugly. It just don't look right. All wrinkly and full of fat. That can't be good for me. If I never tried it I might not know.........Oh man that's tasty! Hooked fer life. Happened to me..........although.....did bacon make me fat or was it racing...............what were we talking about?.........mmmm bAYconnnnnnn.

                      Building and tuning

To me there's nothing better than building a boat and then taking it out and getting the satisfaction of making it just flat out fly. Smooth and level around the track or saw passes it doesn't matter as long as you can run on the ragged edge of disaster and bring it back in one piece!

There's only one self proclaimed "professional" in our hobby and it ain't RB. He enjoys going fast in both straight lines and circles.....
