Well......that may be a while now.....I just had a monkey wrench stuck through my spokes.....

I took the motor apart tonight to put my new ceramics in. Preventative maintenance. ....and...I found a little problem (explains why I felt it was down on power last run)

      Here's an update. ...

I ordered a custom built rotor to my specs. I didn't know neu would do this....very cool indeed

So what I go was a 8mm shaft, 1524 rotor, 8mm bearings, spacers and shims to set my end play and rotor position. Then the end of the shaft is cut back down to 5mm. This should be an awesome little motor. The bigger rotor brings my kv down a touch so now I might be able to run 4s. So now I will have 1524 powa in a 1521 package!

Mike, that's srislash's video but nice nonetheless. ....I think he was trying to motivate me lol. I've got alot going on right now with other people's stuff so mine is getting put on the backburner

Of course as I expected, I ran into a snafu. The rotor came pretty quickly, but dint have the right bearings. My motor has the same size bearings on both ends, the bigger motors have a bigger front bearing...so they sent me one big and one small
Then, the 8mm part that sticks out the front bearing stuck out too far before it turned into 5mm. Ugh. ..so I had to turn it down...and cut the shaft .290 shorter do it would stick out the same length as the original rotor. I think i got it situated now except no bearing. So if I can't find a bearing tomorrow. ..I won't be running again. Dang it.

Needed two like the smaller one...

Difference in length...may be too long...I dunno...may have made a mistake but I guess you don't know if you don't try!

If you look closely you can see where I turned it down in the 8mm part so I can slide my collet on farther. If not, the collet would sit to far out....

Turned out nice. You can't even tell what I did. You see the 8mm part sticking out? It was about .200 more than that....

I must add, I also had another reason for Bringing the collet closer to the motor. It's to reduce flex. The longer the shaft is, the more it will flex. I saw it flex on my lathe as I was cutting it down. I had to take .001-.002 cuts...very lightly. I was afraid of bending it and the shaft is very hard so it's not easy to cut. I had to turn the cutting bit twice because it was hard on the bit, even with lube. Sometimes attention to detail helps.....I'll see if I can get a bearing over nighted to me tomorrow and I'll run it this weekend.

Nice machining, I use a ceramic tip in my lathe for any high tensile machining....I really need to down size my lathe....

Nice work Travis, as mentioned a couple ceramic inserts go a long way on machining hardened shafting. Makes me want to check the TP motors to see if they run hardened shafts.

thx! i'm pretty sure all motor shafts are hardened...if not that would not be too good! I'm going to check into some higher quality inserts this evening...i run across having to cut hard stuff from time to time. I tell you, Having the digital readouts really helped a bunch. I was able to do what I needed very accurately.

I have a chance to run it if i really want to. I'm building a boat for my buddy and i have a freshly rebuilt 1521 of his he said i could use the rotor out of. if i have a chance i might do it...ive got so much going on right now....

I have a 1521 rotor, 2 years old, 15 runs. If your interested, make me a reasonable offer.

Is it a yellow wrap or black wrap? My old rotor is fine as I'm sending it back to neu to be rewrapped. I don't know what to offer you but a brand new one, custom built to my specs, with bearings, shims and a baggie of extra screw cost me $109 shipped.....so I'm not sure what would be fair to offer you? $40?

I have decided to keep the rotor and repair the stator wire on my motor and yes it is carbon wrapped as I am the one who posted about carbon vs Kevlar wraps.
Sounds like you have one you can use until you get yours rewrapped anyway.

                                Good speed!
