I dont want to switch my motor guys. Im just trying to get that 4060 motor to run in the blackjack. Cant I just use the 440 prop and go 4-5s?
Is tp 4060 2040kv ok on 6s?

If you don't have enough pond to stretch your legs, run 4s. To run 5s all day long it is better to have a motor that is rated around 1800kv , IMO.
Yes, on 4s you are good to go and start with 440 prop and watch out for temp and you may be able to go to 42mm and even eventually 445. But seeing how many slow sail boats in your pond, you need to seriously take that into consideration as I know that you realize by now what part throttle does to the service life of a ESC.
Good luck !
Too many boats, not enough time...Comment

Hi rude5150
If you are not actually racing or seriously after saw records you will enjoy running model boats much more if they can be driven at useable speeds on the water available. The recommendations for lower cell counts etc are something you should really consider. Go for quality over quantity and save your self a lot of grief and dollars. If there is a model boat club near you go and join and have some fun boating with others. My 0.02.NZMPBA 2013, 2016 Open Electric Champion. NZMPBA 2016 P Offshore Champion.

Not to get off on a tangent by why the fascination with 6s in tiny boats lately? 6s boats should be in the upper 30" range. 40" if you can find one. A Blackjack on 6s without substantial reinforcement is going to explode when it hits the water after it blows off. And it's going to blow off on this setup. The hatch can't handle a spec motor crash. They're not even glass.
He has all the makings of a really sweet 4s boat. Why 6s? That motor and speedo with maybe a 445 on 4s will take him over 60. Still too fast if the hull hasn't been reinforced but more reasonable than 70mph+.
My hottest 6s boat runs 1450kv. 2000kv plus is silly IMO. We've been through this before though. Too many details to get just right for it to be an every day runner. Subject to opinion of course. Consensus doesn't really exist on this issue.Noisy personComment

I love all the info im getting from different views. All my boats are reinforced, except my Spartan. I've got 4-3s batteries and 2-2s batteries.
Im going to order the TP4050 1730kv on 6s. Now is that alright guys?
Im going to put TP4060 2040kv 180 esc in my spartan Traxxas on 4s. I'll go look into more 2s lipo. Does this sounds better guys?Comment

Problem with boats like the blackjack 29 is its marketed as 6s boat to get the speeds. The only thing the buyer has to do is drop a 6s battery in it. No modifications. 6s at 1800kv doesn't seem like the best idea considering a lot of these are first time boat owners. If the manufacturer is saying it's good to run like that doesn't help. The other forums are riddled with guys saying 2200kv on 6s is the way to go and nobody is posting the fried electronics and smashed up boats. Most people getting into brushless boating probably think it's a safe combo based on the amount of people doing it. They will all end up learning the hardware I suppose.Comment

Rude, it seems pretty reasonable. The 1730kv is going to be to much if that little pond is where you will be running. You can always run 5s if it's a smaller pond I guess. I think your good to go with both choices but guys with far more experience than myself would likely recommend 1600kv for 6s. If you can stay on the throttle you'll keep them together. Even a proper setup will fail if running is mostly half throttle. Good luck, your taken your lumps here well!Comment

If I wanted to go 6S in an Apparition or a BJ29 I would use the HobbyKing 1900Kv EDF motor for about $50 and some good Nano tech batts and 220 esc or T180 and M442. Nice and light but, it will blow off so you WILL need to glass the hatch and maybe more.
Again I show this video of an Apparition on 6S1P and the EDF motor. It's a nice motor with skewed lamination's similar to a NEU, (not even close to a NEU in quality but, a cool motor none the less. If it destroys itself, it didn't cost you an arm and a leg.
You'll see @7min. he breaks the factory motor mount with only a light 36mm x 59mm motor. Some things to think about.

Do not go by what motor makers say are the max limits for their motors. Most specs, particularly rpm and volts, are not practical at all. A 2200 Kv motor is NOT suited for 6S sport running. I set SAW records with a 2200 Kv motor on 6S and ran almost 90 mph (not a GPS speed BTW) but pulled well over 250 amps and heated things up a lot in just two passes.
However, a 2200 Kv motor is a good 4S motor for many applications if it is large enough. Diameter and length matter too, regardless of Kv. So does shaft diameter, as it is well accepted that a 5 mm shaft is too small for motors longer than 75 mm at high rpm.
Too many folks with limited experience will post their opinions as fact when in truth they are very wrong and are giving poor advice. Post count is not a guarantee of competence either. Do not believe everything you read or see on the Internet!
