The Daytona is out for the oval for sure. The rivercat may handle Ok but not sure how it would handle race water chop. If your serious about starting racing start a new thread stating that. The race guys won't be checking out this thread so much. I haven't heard about thr rivercat being an oval racer, it may be but if your son wants to be competing best check out the competition. Depending on class some of these boats are running 65mph wide open through the corners. Worth looking intoComment

The daytona is a great boat to squeeze some speed out of. I have the genesis which is the exact same hull but from hobbyking (rcboatbitz sells it under the genesis as do others) I think the bare fiberglass hull from fightercat runs about $75, they may have a carbon version to, I can't recall. The bare genesis hull (with paintjob) runs about $125. A great deal if you ask me for the quality of the paint. Guys are running them well over the 80mph mark. Mine is getting the full treatment, carbon fiber inlay top to bottom plus use of format and a couple bulkheads up front including reinforcing the sponson tip and in between with some resin and chopped carbon fiber. As far as I can get everywhere will be strengthened, then I will start with the build itself. I will be happy with upper seventies/ low eighties but it will be awhile before I attempt those type of speeds. I will enjoy it in the high 50's to 60's until I got its handling figured out. Lots of genesis/daytona builds on here to give you a good idea of what's expect.

Hi Jeff
Thank you for the info sounds like your genesis is going to be really strong, They are a nice looking hull long and narrow with plenty of room to work, if you don't mind can I ask what is the hull in your profile picture?

The hull in my profile is a 50" P1 Fountain stepped hull. Really nice hull, it was a very light layup and was lots of work reinforcing it everywhere. It's like a tank now! The build is going slow as that's as fast as I can move. There's a build thread under 50" P1 fountain, it has some different touches being added. I love the hull shape with the rounded back. I wouldn't have cared if it was paper mache, I had to have it. A couple others started builds with paint but I haven't seen progress further yet.Comment
