I use Cellpro chargers, and while no charger is fool proof the Cellpro chargers are the safest on the market, they will not charge without balancing and if any cells are too far out of balance the charger goes into a safe charge mode, it also reads the IR and if it deems one cell too much higher than the others it also goes into safe mode. I have charged tens of thousands of packs without incident.

In all my years of racing cars I only saw one go up. Stupid guy asked my kid to use my charger. he put it on NiMi mode to try to bring back a pack too low to charge on Lipo. What an idiot next thing there is an inferno on the table. They dumped an entire extinguisher all over my chargers and power pack. Didnt phase the flame.

Ive had alot of experience with lipos and chargers, since I worked in the hobby industry for many yrs....buying a quality charger really is an important factor on the safety side of this.....Ive seen lipos explode in various situtations, had a good friend loose part of his hand while cross connecting lipos in a EDF Jet, reason I dont use just bullets in my boats for esc to lipo connections...Lipo charging bags are a good thing to keep the lipos from flaring, and ammo cans are a good storage container, Like previously mentioned lipos dont just blow up in storage unless they get damaged/punctured. .....there are numerous good quality chargers available with built in safety features.. One of the chargers I use is the Dynamite passport duo, it senses faults quickly, also the FMS series are very high quality if you can get one, Mike mentioned cellpro all there upper end chargers are top notch..There is numerous other quality chargers available to us. If a charger cant tell the difference between a nimh and a lipo then its not a smart charger and I for sure would not be using it....I always charge my lipos using the balance feature no way can you set it up wrong then....be safe and Im glad this was a lesson learned without any harm being done to your home bro.... Thanks for the reminder steve, I appreciate it .

I've balanced charged all my lipos in their vehicles, in the house for a number of years without a problem. I used a Turnigy accucell 6 from HK for 5-6 years until it blitz'd out and quit working. I bought a venom pro charger with tp & xh balance boards and it works fine up to 6s 6000mah.

I think its time I made a change to cover my arse since I am in an apartment . I don't want to risk the neighbors houses either.
Its time to pull the cells from their vehicles, chase down an ammo can & start charging my cells outside.

            Thanks steve.

Electric Off-Road - Lipo burn (graphic picture warning) - Guys please remember to be careful with your batteries. A guy that races with us sent us this picture. Was charging batteries at home and he had one go up in flames. 2nd and 3rd degree burns. He says he is doing fine but I believe he's gonna need lots of time to

Well, I haven't found a decent ammo can to balance my lipos in locally. However this old prssure cooker I found works pretty good too

I use a small fire proof safe to charge and store batteries. I also lined the safe with lipo bags so I am pretty much worry free. Oh and I also have the smoke detector right above it aswell. When I transport I use an ammo can.

Ammo cans and clay pots and LiPo sacks oh my! Yet the transportation industry considers bubble wrap and cardboard boxes safe when shipping LiPo packs around the world.....and just how many transport trucks and planes burn up every year from LiPo fires? Food for thought.

That is a great ideal but fire bricks would be a lot more confidenting feeling but still good ideal. I still better then the bags they sell

After reading a couple threads like this, and hearing about one first hand, I've finally decided to get a bit more proactive. The bottom set are my boat batts which won't be used until spring, I'll be getting more blocks to build up a charging station also instead of the wooden shelves I have been using.....FYI cinder blocks are only $1.49/ea., can't argue with that.

I picked up 3 of these fire proof boxes at staples on liquidation for $10 each. I store and carry them in these as they are quite small and can hold about 10 batteries which is easily carried. http://www.lowes.com/pd_407289-254-1...ductId=3743541
