    Lipo warning to all

    SAFETY FIRST

I was charging a battery with a funny reading on one of the cells. The battery wa used and this would be my first time charging it. I was supposed to be checking on it but forgot and then I see a ball of fire out of the kitchen window in my carport. I have allways seen small volt and mah fires on youtube from lipos but this was a 6s 4400mah 45 c thunderpower and was a raging inferno. My charger received a little burn on the side but nothing major still working.I just want everybody to know how dangerous things can get with these batteries in a fault situation. I think will buy a few lipo sacks to be on the safe side. I am no means saying these batteries are unsafe but if damaged or improper treatment have the potential to be.

Lesson learned for me everybody be safe

Yeah no joke! Almost burned down the house with a 5s 5000 a few years back. Saw the flash from down the hall and deep in another room. I now do things much different. Glad everything is ok (safe)!

Yes be wary of the suspect batteries. Some chargers will just keep charging.

Thanks for the reminder.....it can happen to you.
I'm gonna make some more changes in my charging operations.

That's why I like my Hitech charger, if it sees a problem with a battery it shuts down instantly.

Unless the circuitry in the charger causes the short in the pack. Not trying to be a smarty pants, but I repair electronics by trade....and they ALL fail eventually!

Best to have your bases (and your batteries) covered.

I have only ever charged lipos in a lipo bag with the Fire Blanket handy.
Mistakes can happen, charge lipo on nimh charge cycle etc or even in your case a dodgy pack. Atleast if you are prepared for the worst, you wont need to make an insurance claim on the house haha

Guilty. Thanks for the reminder. Paying attention is the most important part.

I need to dispose of some more cells too. Needed that reminder too.

Yeah you're right I probably should invest in some Lipo bags soon just to be safe. I don't need my house burning down!

Don't let those bags loll you into a false sense of security either. They're barely better than nothing once you make it to 4s.

I charge with the cells in lipo sacks and I sit next to them surfing the web. I also check constantly with the charger screen on the voltage monitoring per cell to see if any cells are lagging or going over the top. I might need some new P-mono cells it looks like... I guess 3 years on 25C-35C HK cells is enough...

Yeah, I'm usually right there with them in the shop, most of the time when I'm charging batteries I'm getting boats ready for the next day. And like Ray I'm always checking the screen on the charger

That's another tricky thing. The bags make it so the cells themselves aren't in your line of site. They could all blood sausagey in there and you don't know.
