I found a list of Roar approved motors but all their classes are mixed together on the list, 1/8th scale, modified, spec and such. Is there a list of "05" sized motors that is separated out from this list somewhere?Comment

I wouldn't worry too much about the details of the motor rules... they've already done that with their "Approval List"... The "05" motor dimensions definition, however, is listed in section: 8.5.4 “05” Size Dimensions:
Here is a link to the Approval List: http://www.roarracing.com/approvals/...lessmotors.php
The allowed motors would be any most on the list, with the exception of those noted as "1:8" or as "4x4 SC". Everything else, along with the ability to use the approved rotors, would be fair game.
Because ALL of the motors are the same size, basic weight, basic construction, etc... there is a practical limit to how low a wind you can get away with... I think 8.5 might be the lowest, 10.5 or 13.5 a bit more practical.
Also, if you want to use a sensorless ESC, you might choose a lower wind to make up for the lack of timing. If you use an RC Car ESC, with dynamic timing, etc., you can get away with a higher wind, as you can dial in RPMs with timing.
Additionally, many of the manufacturers are making their Car/Truck ESCs waterproof these days. I just ordered one from Dynamite/Fuse that is 130A, programable, with a cooling fan, that is water proof. Going to test it in my P-Ltd Mono shortly.
This would really bring back a class where 22-24"-ish Monos, Sport Hydros, 1/16th Scale Hydros, etc., would be viable again. You would be able to run a 1-mile race on a single 2S1P 4400-5000mAh pack... Props would likely be in the 1/8" shaft size... perhaps a few in the 37mm diameter range would require a 3/16" shaft... Boats could be raced at 2lbs RTR. Clubs with smaller lakes would be a perfect fit.
I have sent a note to PSFEMBC to see if anyone would be interested in trying this for next season. Perhaps start with Monos and see where it goes.Darin E. Jordan - Renton, WA

I know.. that's the way most have been. N2 classes are out of hand, and even those clubs are are still running it, appear to run it under restricted rules.
My thoughts above are simply a way to reign it in a bit, without getting into the drama of battling over which motors would/wouldn't be allowed, etc... Everyone seems to either want to run cheap Chinese crap, or Neu and Lehners... ROAR has already sorted out all of this, and the list is updated yearly. Pick a motor from the list and go racing.
Just a pipe-dream, I know... but I figured I'd throw it out there. Without some kind of change like this... N2 is... well... what it is...
I don't really care one-way or the other... Just tossing around ideas...Darin E. Jordan - Renton, WA

I am an FE Newbie.. And very interested in N2... we have a couple of smaller places to run close by
I was wondering, when I first started looking into getting into N2 I was warned that to be competitive you really have to get a good motor and high end ESC
Isn't part of the issue allowing sensored ESC..which I understand allows guys to really dial up the power.
Do you think allowing ONLY sensorless ECS would help contain the cost and keep the HP down?
Also
How about some of the 280 motors out there.. Would they supply enough power and still keep it interesting??Comment

Uh, we need to keep teching cell before the race. What needs to be changed is the maximum voltage allowed per cell. Right now the rules just say that the "nominal voltage" for N classes is 0-7.5 volts. So, is 7.7 legal? Is 8.4 legal? What does "nominal" mean? We (NAMBA and IMPBA) NEED to close this loophole before it becomes a real problem with the low voltage classes, increasing costs substantially and increasing safety risks.
I'll not jack this thread any more. Look for a new thread sometime in the future.....

I'll be building my N2 Sport hydro soon, a 27" Whiplash clone. Not Neu powered but, not ROAR powered either. Something in between @ approx. 1000Watts. Wish me luck in MI 2014"Nortavlag Bulc

A Miss Geico 24" would make a cool N2 Offshore hull if you make your own hardware for it.Nortavlag Bulc

There apears be just no end for classes in namba. You all just said we need p-limited cats cause they can't compete. Talked someone into making it a class and now we have 8 more classes to run at the 2014 nats. How you tuned p-limited cat into a class for all power parameters is beyond me.
I just don't get why these guys allways need to add add add add add classes. There are plenty now, just pick a popular one and compete.I try and avoid paste eaters.Comment

I'd say, looking at the Nat's entries, that adding the Cat classes for Oval was a spectacular idea for NAMBA...Darin E. Jordan - Renton, WA

I like the cat class idear... I ve never run the oval cat class but last spring the wave blasters divided the mono and cats offshore races and it was a lot more fun then when combined.....MY RETIREMENT PLAN?????.....POWERBALL

Ummmm... Last time I checked... N2 was already a class. And, CAT was added because there was interest and demand in OVAL racing them, NOT because they "can't compete" in Offshore, which isn't a CLASS, but rather a race format.

Using your method to determin cat class was a good idea then we can also say N1 is a bad idea.I try and avoid paste eaters.Comment

And, N1 isn't a "bad" idea... it's a dated idea that seems to have run it's course, for heat-racing anyhow. Unless, of course, you have a smaller pond, or want your kids to have something to run. It's still a FUN and CHALLENGING class to use for SAW and 2-Lap Time-Trials. If you don't want to run it... don't.
Is there a problem here?? If you have a personal problem with me, why don't you take it up with a PM?? I don't even know who you are and you seem to be bent on attacking me...Darin E. Jordan - Renton, WA

Darin, Jeff doesn't realize how attached you actually aren't to N1 classes.
Best place for kids is limited. N1 will bore them to tears. These kids have video games that are much faster paced than N1. Just prop down a little and let them get used to the boats before you let them go fast. The size to speed ratio on a Titan 29 can't be beat for a kid.Noisy personComment
