Our club is pretty much all petrol and a couple of nitros except me. The only time I get to race other electric boats is when there are regional or national regattas. My pursuit beats all of the petrol and nitro monos bar one on club days. It has a cheap HK car motor, T120 and turnigy lipos. I've learned a lot from this forum, but driving a boat around bouys only comes with practice. Like Doby said, if you go to regattas to race, even as a novice, there are always others that are willing to encourage and help. It's not all about winning (although that is a good buzz) but the fun and friendships.
Question for non racers only

I'm with you siberianhusky.....against myself the clock "Eagle Tree" big time. Its take in me two solid years at the lake sometimes twice a week at the wee hours of the morning before work to get my PT 45 super sport to run over 100 and is now dead on perfect at 106-107 almost any day. I am told the record is way below that...by maybe 15 mph but feel my boat and myself just would not fit or belong at a pro race with the big dogs. Its almost like the Olympics....you have to earn your way there. Maybe I'm wrong who knows.
Great job !!!
I'll be there some day too.

When I was younger I raced nitro, pretty seriously. Due to noise, attrition etc the nitro scene fizzled out around here.
Now that I'm self employed I just don't have the time in the summer to travel to races.
Almost every boat I own though is built to P spec, got my eagle tree and a couple buddies we just go out and rip around together, but for me every run is a test session, constantly tweaking, trying props etc trying to get the most out of my boats. I keep notes about what works and doesn't and all that fun stuff.
Thats really about all it takes for any class of boat to be competetive, time on the water and lots of testing.
Just about everybody who is "serious" tells right up front what motor, esc, batteries and prop they use, not much choice in equipment really. Plus every boat is slightly different.....Somebodies setup might not quite work the same on your boat even though every thing seems the same, hull could have come from a different mold and have a slight hook or something.
All the info is already here for the taking, just have to absorb it and put in the time tuning and becoming a better driver. You really can't learn how to race reading, gotta get out there and do it, and expect to lose at first and not get discouraged. Took me a few years before I was competetive in our local nitro scene.
Where are you in Ontario if you don't mind me asking? I live in Mississauga and am always looking for more people to run with.

Common theme here is there's not a lot of clubs close by. Never seen anyone around me running and the nearest club which I believe is now gone (devil mt water boilers) was about an hour and a half to 2 hrs away. I guess what I'm saying is- I'd be more than happy to share if I could only find someone to share with! :)Comment

I hear that! I already race 1/8 Truggy and GT onroad, and I'd at the very least give a shot. There was a very large race in Hamilton Ontario, a few weeks ago. I would have attended, except I had an off-road race that weekend, and both of my boats are SAW setups. And there wasn't a SAW class.
The only club around me I believe is the Granderiver Marine Modelers, but again their almost two hours from my place.
I started a thread titled FE Boaters in Mississauga a week or two ago, and still no hits lol.
I guess me and the six other guys I run with are the only boaters in an area with 1.5 million people!HPR 115 - Lenher 2240/7, AS26- 150BL EVO ll esc's 92.3mph

I can sympathise with everyone that doesn't have a club nearby. I had to wait nearly 30 years for a club where I am. Largely because the council filled in the only pond in town 30 years ago, and only due to recent subdivision development has there been any decent water to run on. Fortunately there now is and thanks to a some committed boaters we have a strong albeit small club, a pond with a permanent coarse, drivers stand and even a container complete with rescue boat. We will be hosting the NZ nats next year at Easter again too. It can happen!NZMPBA 2013, 2016 Open Electric Champion. NZMPBA 2016 P Offshore Champion.

Thanks for the input, but I guess it is just to big of a leap for most remote boasters to get into racing without a club to learn from. I was hoping if the current racing setups were handed to them it would be the boost to get them to sanctioned events without being in a club, maybe not?ReddyWatts fleet photo
