    Question for non racers only

If the racers would post their current setups, how many new people would actually enter races? If you felt like you could build a boat that was competitive and meet the class specs, would you give it a shot? If you knew their hull, motor, esc, prop and battery specs (RACE Class of boat), would you give it a try? This forum grew because information was shared without criticism. I am just curious if racing would grow if people had more detailed information about racing. I know if you are not in a club racing information can be hard to obtain sometimes. You would still be at a disadvantage from racing skills and setting up the boat, but that would come with experience and money.

So non racers, would you build a boat and race it if racers shared their current winning equipment?

I would try to build a boat, the only thing is there is no one around Jacksonville Fl that I know of that races so its kind of pointless to me to even try. If I was in an area that was heavy into boat racing hell ya I would. So i just have stock factory setups in my boats due to no club racing and want good running boats that I dont have to worry about braking.

Info on the "spec" setups would be good, not a lot of $$ involved. There are no FE clubs or racing in NE that I know off. Just groups of boaters that get together and run together and have a good time. There is a group that runs in Plymouth most Saturdays

I believe both Impba, and Namba have posted rules, and specs for every class/hull of boats, for racing. As far as getting detailed info, while *some* racers may keep parts, mods, or set-ups close to their
vests, (a 50mm stinger, really Tony?), most do not. It is quite easy to search these forums and find out all the info you need to build a race ready, competitive boat, in any class. Members will also advise, and assist with, *dialing in*. Unlike golf, I have never met a snob at any meet-up, or race event. The very first time I met anyone in this hobby, they GAVE me a hull, and hardware to start me off! (Diegoboy).
If you can, join a club, you will find many who will take you under their wing.

I'll share my top secret set up that I used to place 2nd in the P-Spec Offshore class at the Michigan P-Shoot-Out in 2012...it got me second place out of about 15 boats over 2 days of racing..Going into the last heat on the second day, I was tied for laps with Mike Pags.

Now please don't share this with anyone...

            Ready...

Bone stock AQ Revolt with Qty 2, 5800Mah Turnigy 25C LiPos and a Graupner K48 prop.

I know what you are thinking...wow, how can I possibly duplicate your set-up Doby??????

Let me help you...go to Hobby King...buy the LiPos
Go to OSE, buy Revolt and prop...

            Place in water and go.

Seriously, the hardware is pretty simple for the P-Spec classes...the rest is just driving skill (or luck) and messing around with battery locations and strut settings/ props.

I've NEVER been to a race where the competition was NOT willing to help others out.

Sounds like you have the beginnings of a club and racing...

Like I stated, A club member has easier access to this kind of info. The original question is for the boaters that do not have easy access to a club, which is probably the majority.

All kinds of new spec boats out there now, you could have 5 or 6 classes if a club chose to.

I might give it a go if there was something close enough. I got an FE30 I intend to build to spec with a UL1 motor and 4s 5000mah pack.

When I was younger I raced nitro, pretty seriously. Due to noise, attrition etc the nitro scene fizzled out around here.
Now that I'm self employed I just don't have the time in the summer to travel to races.
Almost every boat I own though is built to P spec, got my eagle tree and a couple buddies we just go out and rip around together, but for me every run is a test session, constantly tweaking, trying props etc trying to get the most out of my boats. I keep notes about what works and doesn't and all that fun stuff.
Thats really about all it takes for any class of boat to be competetive, time on the water and lots of testing.
Just about everybody who is "serious" tells right up front what motor, esc, batteries and prop they use, not much choice in equipment really. Plus every boat is slightly different.....Somebodies setup might not quite work the same on your boat even though every thing seems the same, hull could have come from a different mold and have a slight hook or something.
All the info is already here for the taking, just have to absorb it and put in the time tuning and becoming a better driver. You really can't learn how to race reading, gotta get out there and do it, and expect to lose at first and not get discouraged. Took me a few years before I was competetive in our local nitro scene.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Only one problem, every one I run with has a different boat and set up,mild to wild. So it's hard to have a race. 3-4 mean machines all with different motors etc

Pretty much the same with us, I basically run against myself and the "clock", About the only boats a number of us have in common are SV 27s, one guy only runs 6s setups, another runs a number of HK motors in his stuff, another has a UL-1 and Stiletto....
LOL nobody on the same page! Still a lot of fun though! Highlight of my weekends.

I'm with you siberianhusky.....against myself the clock "Eagle Tree" big time. Its take in me two solid years at the lake sometimes twice a week at the wee hours of the morning before work to get my PT 45 super sport to run over 100 and is now dead on perfect at 106-107 almost any day. I am told the record is way below that...by maybe 15 mph but feel my boat and myself just would not fit or belong at a pro race with the big dogs. Its almost like the Olympics....you have to earn your way there. Maybe I'm wrong who knows.
PT-45, 109mph, finally gave up after last bad crash
                              H&M 1/8 Miss Bud 73 mph
                              Chris Craft 16 mph
