Our club is pretty much all petrol and a couple of nitros except me. The only time I get to race other electric boats is when there are regional or national regattas. My pursuit beats all of the petrol and nitro monos bar one on club days. It has a cheap HK car motor, T120 and turnigy lipos. I've learned a lot from this forum, but driving a boat around bouys only comes with practice. Like Doby said, if you go to regattas to race, even as a novice, there are always others that are willing to encourage and help. It's not all about winning (although that is a good buzz) but the fun and friendships.

Almost every boat I own though is built to P spec, got my eagle tree and a couple buddies we just go out and rip around together, but for me every run is a test session, constantly tweaking, trying props etc trying to get the most out of my boats. I keep notes about what works and doesn't and all that fun stuff.
Thats really about all it takes for any class of boat to be competetive, time on the water and lots of testing.
Just about everybody who is "serious" tells right up front what motor, esc, batteries and prop they use, not much choice in equipment really. Plus every boat is slightly different.....Somebodies setup might not quite work the same on your boat even though every thing seems the same, hull could have come from a different mold and have a slight hook or something.
All the info is already here for the taking, just have to absorb it and put in the time tuning and becoming a better driver. You really can't learn how to race reading, gotta get out there and do it, and expect to lose at first and not get discouraged. Took me a few years before I was competetive in our local nitro scene.
      Siberianhusky,

Where are you in Ontario if you don't mind me asking? I live in Mississauga and am always looking for more people to run with.

Also I would race in a club, if there was one in my area.

Common theme here is there's not a lot of clubs close by. Never seen anyone around me running and the nearest club which I believe is now gone (devil mt water boilers) was about an hour and a half to 2 hrs away. I guess what I'm saying is- I'd be more than happy to share if I could only find someone to share with! :)

I hear that! I already race 1/8 Truggy and GT onroad, and I'd at the very least give a shot. There was a very large race in Hamilton Ontario, a few weeks ago. I would have attended, except I had an off-road race that weekend, and both of my boats are SAW setups. And there wasn't a SAW class.
The only club around me I believe is the Granderiver Marine Modelers, but again their almost two hours from my place.
I started a thread titled FE Boaters in Mississauga a week or two ago, and still no hits lol.

I guess me and the six other guys I run with are the only boaters in an area with 1.5 million people!

I can sympathise with everyone that doesn't have a club nearby. I had to wait nearly 30 years for a club where I am. Largely because the council filled in the only pond in town 30 years ago, and only due to recent subdivision development has there been any decent water to run on. Fortunately there now is and thanks to a some committed boaters we have a strong albeit small club, a pond with a permanent coarse, drivers stand and even a container complete with rescue boat. We will be hosting the NZ nats next year at Easter again too. It can happen!

Livewire, we're in Peterborough, I'm positive there are a group of guys that run I think in Milton.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

i agree when i first went to my old local club the only brushless boat i seen was a carbon fibre 10S twin monster cat lol the rest nitro and gas and was like i got no hope hahaha it wasnt till i found ose i got the courage and knowledge to get a decent boat on a budget and be competitive i know pride myself on being a budget racer showing any newbies that it can be done and have an awesome time without spending several hundred dollars so thanks to everyone at ose over the years its been awesome

Thanks for the input, but I guess it is just to big of a leap for most remote boasters to get into racing without a club to learn from. I was hoping if the current racing setups were handed to them it would be the boost to get them to sanctioned events without being in a club, maybe not?

Try the NLMBC ponds in Alliston/Beamsville . I live in Burlington and running down at the lake weekly.

                        Cheers, Jay.

I've been into rc boat since I was 6 or 7. My uncle use to build boats planes and everything in hobby building. He died and I didn't have anyone into building Rc stuff around. Growing up in the Bronx was not the best place for rc boats. We had a rc air plane field but that was about it. Then I didn't have the $. I moved to S. Florida 20 years ago and tried to get involved in the boat seen here. I was treated badly because I was not up to date and having a heavy accent didn't help. So I just started building my own stuff. Looking back now. Some really bad stuff. Then I got a ProBoat Black Jack 26 nitro. Converted it to electric, then back to nitro. I got my hands on a Mean Machine did 20 different set ups on that. Then PB Shockwave 36 nitro, electric 26 Shockwave, 24 Apache both converted brushless. I could keep going but don't have the time. I got a Super Vee 27 and have been hooked on that boat for sometime now. I built a fiberglass 25" Deep Vee with SV esc and motor. It is like a short Revolt.
Anyway to get back on topic and answer your question. Yes I would get into racing with a club if it wasn't so secretive and the attitude as it was when first started. I don't see anyone running rc boats any more here in Davie Fl. I know they use to have races here in Markham Park. Now I just build them until I blow them up. Then rebuild. I do RC cars, trucks and boats so I'm always trying to build something. This site has been a great source of info and would like to thank you all.
