Not trying to be negative but what ever RTR boat you get, just be ready to possibly spend some money on buying a new ESC or motor in the near future.

My Miss Geico 60 amp ESC lasted all of 7 minutes before I had a fire. I have heard of other RTR electronics not lasting long.
I bought a Seaking 180 ESC and a Leopard Motor and havn't had any issues yet.

Like some have mentioned. Just decide on a boat, run it, have fun and fix any issues as you go. You'll gain the experience that way. I have been in R/C's for 15 years but never really got big into boats. Been hardcore crawling for the last 6 years. Slowly learning about boats and what they are all about and how to work on them.

My hang up with the genesis is reading about people having issues with the flex shaft. I don't feel like I'd be comfortable with changing out the shaft and brass tube with a new one and also finding what parts to go together to upgrade it. maybe I'm making it harder than it really is. I would plan on running the boat on 4s with a 120a esc.

Outta curiousity - was it the PB ESC (gray / silver color) or the Dyanmite ESC found in the newer Proboat products??

Personally, I don't have a very high opinion of the Dynamite electronics, I would (and did) buy a used PB motor (1500Kv) before I would buy anything Dynamite.

The Dynamite motors are about $20~$25 cheaper than they're PB counter-parts, that should tell you something right there.

Dynamite ESC prices are bout the same as there PB made counter-parts, but that doesn't necessarily mean there the same / better quality than the PB parts.

I was in need and short on Money and time. The FE Nats were 2 weeks off and I have had good luck with the Turnigy Nano Tech soft case packs before. Hobby King was out of the packs I needed in the USA. So I thought I would try them in a light setup. I run a stock UL-1 60 amp ESC I do have a cap bank I build on them, (I have several P LTD Boats) But was not running big props X442, H-13 and so on.

According to our best source of inside info, the PB and Dyn motors are essentially the same

I've run both the old and the new 1500s and don't see any difference.

Hard to argue with your info source

I've run both the old and the new 1500s and don't see any difference.
If they're technically the same motor as Darin stated, then why the price difference?? If the diff was only $5~$7 that would be one thing, but...

As far as ESC's go, I only use the Seaking's, with one exception - my Rio ep BL project. Look at attached pic, that platform in-between the motor mounts & syrofoam is for the ESC, for the original build I used AQ 45A (SVR) ESC.

Now want to use LiPo batts & that ESC doesn't have LVC; last week I got a PB 45A unit (from MGv1) because it has a flat bottom like the AQ unit (I use velcro to attach it to the platform), supports LiPo's & programmable - I got the card with it. Motor I use pulls 27A @ peak efficency, both ESC's give me little over 65% overhead which is plenty.

Already converted the PB unit to single batt & I'm in the process of replacing the 3.5mm bullets for obvious reasons.

There are a lot of factors that affect sales price. Until somebody shows me data that says there is a problem with the new motors then I am not concerned. My data point of one says there is no difference. Waiting for more actual data.

Units produced and sold can affect selling price right?

Before I purchase the Genesis cat, HK tech support told me the motor was a 4-pole, 4074, 2200kv, Turnigy and that the flex-shaft is one-piece.

For ~ $200, plus $64 shipping, I ordered the Genesis cat in March (Hong Kong), received the boat early May with the packing material in perfect condition. Upon unpacking the boat, I see a couple of protrusions at the top (outside) of the canopy. The "glue" they use on the motor mount broke, the motor/mount flopped around and had damaged the canopy from the inside!

The motor is a 4-pole, 3674 2075kv and the flex-shaft is two-piece, meaning, to lubricate the flex-shaft you must remove the motor and pull the shaft out from within the hull - not desirable!

Their support, both chat and email were extremely frustrating. They asked me to photograph everything in detail, then they wanted me to ship the entire boat back to Hong Kong. It took me another week of emails that they finally agreed that I could return just the damaged canopy to their Washington state warehouse. Then, they responded that the canopy was back-ordered until July 5.

I reinforced the hull interior, fiber-glassed the motor mount, installed CF replaced their 2-piece flex-shaft and strut with an upgraded Motley Crew flex-shaft (I cut, solder) and appropriate strut.

Not confident that HK would send me a replacement canopy nor wanting to wait until the end of summer to run my May birthday gift, I ordered the canopy direct from TFL Hobby (Hong Kong) for $58 (including std. shipping) and received the canopy from TFL beginning of June.

While the stock flex-shaft, collet .150 size, collet flex-shaft slips, completely losing drive to the prop. I have ordered an Aeromarine, 3-piece flex-shaft which is due to arrive this week. The rudder and transom hardware is the same as another TFL boat that I and they seem pretty good.

Last week, HK notified me that the replacement canopy arrived in stock and while it is in the USPS tracking system, it is still in China. This update somewhat redeemed HK.

hmmm, sounds an aweful lot like what I said in post #38 above, just sayin...

This is a perfect example of why I said to stay with name brands like AQ & PB. Tech support is in America, if you need a replacement for a defective part, they send it to you free (within a couple weeks, not months) & most of the time the parts are in stock.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Pete, hope things get better for you.
