Randy, I'm just wondering why you bought hardcase packs, they are pretty much for cars. I've only got hk packs, blue turnigy 40c, and nano 65c, for the money turnigy blue seem to be better value. But when I have money again (one day...) I'm getting some dinogys!

Man I really want the genesis but I fear being new to the boats, I may be taking on more than I can chew. I have a hard time understanding as I'm still reading and taking in tons of info.

I'm lost on what prop I would need, and if I broke the spflex shaft it comes with I don't know what I'd do.

You're thinking about it too much. I say just spend a little extra and get a proboat cat 29 and have some fun. They're pretty simple, decent quality, and parts and upgrades are pretty easy to come buy. But that's just my opinion...

No, of course not. Cats turn both ways but are just great for high speed, or big lap/oval runs. Vee's are good all around. Turn back and forth in a small area, jump waves but can also do high speed etc. Just more maneuverable. I have a bias, I'm a snob for great looking boats. Nice hull, big roost. The Pursuit is a fantastic all around hull but its uglier than a bowling shoe. It looks like a cartoony super hero boat with that big "bug eyed" looking windshield. Neither will be "more than you can chew." You can have the Genesis going 40-45 stock, then later mod it up to 80mph.

I totally agree, take a look in the OSE store and / or Kintec Racing, lots of upgrade parts available.

For a cat you won't go wrong with either the Miss Geico or Blackjack. One thing to note bout the MG, rudder is right behind the prop, lotta people don't like that, they buy the kit to move it off to the right side (facing rear of boat)... http://kintecracing.com/Pro_Boat.html - third item down. The BJ comes with the offset rudder setup from the factory.

For a mono, Impulse all the way Jose. I have the first version of the Impulse, bought a bunch of upgrade parts for it. But I've been busy with the Rio & another project, don't want to add a third project, so for now the Impulse is on hold.

Last but not least, who ya gonna call if your HK boat has issues? China? With Proboat it's a toll free to America including Saturdays.

Equally important is spare parts, pretty much any hobby store can get you PB parts, try that with an HK boat! That alone should justify the extra cost of a PB product.

                  But that's just my opinion...

I'm thinking genesis it is. I love the look of the boat. I am also a fan of rooster tails though, and I know the cat won't put up a huge roost like a v will.

I see people mentioning the octura x440 for the genesis. Excuse my ignorance, but isn't there a 2 and 3 blade option? What one do i want? Ill be running 4s for now.

                    Man this is almost overwhelming...

Hey Cinnabun, I sympathise, take a deep breath and a couple of days to think and digest it all. There's a lot of good advice, check out boats at local clubs and ponds if you can. Keep it simple and as the bug bites you, ramp it up from there! Joining a club is a good idea if there is one near, ( if haven't already of course).

Lot of great advises here but as a newby I can feel your hesitation.Personally I wouldn't buy a HK boats despite the great looking they have. The Genesis cat in special is not a good turner as the sponsons botton Works better for straights. In the other hand I would support your local hobby but this is ME!If you tend for a cat get the Miss Geico is a better built model that can be upgraded at a low budget after you get more used to this kind of boat.Gill

My local hobby shop doesn't stock boats, so no which model I pick, parts will be ordered online.

No boat will be perfect. What it comes down to is you just have to bite the bullet and run with it. All boats have their issues. My first boat was an aquacraft Supervee27. Great little boats that have really simple upgrade options that really make them go. They need modding though right off the bat to run lipo's. Maybe the Revolt could be a good first option. Just choose, run with it, and deal with the issues as they arrive. That's the way you'll learn. No biggie. First issue that arrives just come back here and ask us all about it.

Me - I'd go a nice simple mono first up like the Revolt. Lots of good info right here about that boat. Leave cats and hydro's etc until a bit later. Completely your choice though.

Lots of guys end up with the Traxxas Spartan as their first boat. Goes well enough out of the box, but *does* have issues. I wouldn't go that way. But again, your choice.

I'm not getting a spartan, I don't like how they look. A friend of mine had one, and it had tons of issues.

I'm torn between the rx ready revolt, and the genesis. I just can't make up my mind but I keep going back to the genesis. I think it's a beauty.

                                Amen on the Spartan.

Sounds like your choice is made. Run with it!!! :)
