3674 2200kv motor wire hot. help

hi, I bought turnigy motor 3674 2200kv. prop is m445 using in the hobbyking princess boat.

battery, motor and esc is warm but the 3 motor lead/wire is really hot. I have ec5 5mm connectors.

if I run a smaller prop x440/3 then it is ok but the boat takes quite awhile to get on plane.

any suggestions what I should do about the motor wire?
    thanks

What batteries? You have ec5's on the battery wires, what do you have on the motor wires? Pics?

batteries are 5800mah 30c and using ec5 5mm connectors on the motor and esc also. esc is 120a

My take is that at 1000mm the Hk Princess is a fairly large hull ( just looked that up ). Plug an M445 into a 2200kv motor on a hull that big and the system is going to be working pretty hard, and drawing a lot of current. That is why your wires are getting hot. When you prop down you aren't loading the system up as much, so you draw less current. On my pursuit 32 I have a Leopard 2200kv running 4s also with an M445. Now, if that boat runs too wet I start getting heat in the Esc and wiring. Set it to run a little more loose and all temps are nice. Less drag, less load on the system.

Badly soldered joints though will certainly add heat to wiring as well.

Not familar with the HK Princess hull though, just saying. I think with a 1000mm hull you'd need to decrease the kv on the motor and up the voltage, so you could run a bigger prop on the boat.

You *can* at a pinch attach a water cooling block to your wiring to cool it, or simply wind cooling line around it. But that is a band aid solution to get you out of trouble while you plan a proper fix. I do the cooling block on my Spartan at the moment.

            Not an expert though. :).

            So...2200kv....you're running 4S?

4S? 6S? Ec5's are a dual plug - b/l motors have three wires - do you mean 5mm bullets on the motor wires? No pics available? (this would tell us more than you are offering).

The princess is not as large as you might think, 1000mm includes the overhang at the rear. The actual true hull length is 850mm x 210mm wide (spec says 300mm wide). The hull is close to the size of a Pursuit.

Pictures and video's would tell the story a little better,
And with that info in front of us it would make it easier to help you.
                  I have a modded 36"shockwave running on 4s 5.5 all the way with a 4074 2200kv 120a seaking esc and m445,
That runs in the 40's and running nice and cool.

4s batteries, im running everything with ec5 5mm connectors (motor 3 wire is ec5, battery/ esc is also ec5) i'll try to get some pictures tonight.

my boat is about the size as the pursuit, the only difference is it run much wetter than a pursuit due to weight, most of the hull is still in the water at speed, where as the pursuit is usually 1/3 in the water at speed.

If it was my boat I would have 5.5 all the way,
I would try the 5.5 on the motor wires and shorten them a little to,
Also would like to see the esc to cells wires and how long are they ?
More pictures please of the whole setup and hardware to.
That jacket should have the back nipple at the top for the exit water,
And it also should be a longer jacket for that motor.
Also what are the cap temps after a good 2 min run with the m445 and x440/3 ?
I had to add cap to my esc to help with temp of them.

on the m445 the motor and esc and caps were roughly 120F, the motor wire is 165F, Lipo batteries were 140F

esc to battery wire is about 10cm and battery also has about 10cm wire

I did try to shorten the motor wire, when I cut the plastic covering, the wires had a red tint on it and I couldn't solder on it so I just left it.

Its not a good idea to try to shorten motor wires on most motors as they have an insulating coating on the wires which is very very difficult to remove to enable soldering.

Are both prop S&B good ?

Like I said try the 5.5 bullets for the motor to esc,
How many minutes of run time are you getting on the 4s 30c 5800mah cells ?

And is that one 4s pack or two for parallel ?

Also how long does it take for the wires to get warm at the motor connectors ?

Also looking at your water lines.
They should be inlet water to the inlet to esc first than out to motor jacket lower nipple in front,
Than water comes out upper nipple on top of jacket than to motor mount and out to outlet of boat hull.

It would cool thing a lot better that way.
