I don't have any insight on how to get to 70mph, but isn't 56ish good enough for your first boat? Who cares if its a spartan. Just go run the boat, and enjoy it for what it is. Have you looked at the spartan forum here? I'm sure there's some info in there you could use...

Haha...j/k but for real, NOOOOO 56ish isn't good enough for me especially since I was promised 70 with this new motor. And I have been on the Spartan forum here. That's where I got all my ideas and was able to do every conceivable upgrade to the boat prior to upgrading the motor and esc. Considering stock it ran 51, and after dumping over $500 in upgrades all I got was 5 more mph???? Ummmmm....No, that's not satisfactory to me. But like I already said.....this is a hobby where there are lots of learning experiences and I cut my teeth early on, so from here, only faster boats will be born.

I would like to see some video's of how your boat was running before and after the new motor up grade,
Also what lipo's and motor do you have in the setup ?
Also some pictures of the boat setup and hardware with the cells in place like ready to hit the water,
To see how things look on it.Comment

Lenny,
Hopefully in the next couple days the weather clears up enough for me to make some runs with the new setup and film them. Forecast calls for like 80% chance of rain the next few days though. But I'll definitely get all kinds of pics up and some videos for ya! Thanks!!Comment

So after speaking with the particular shop who sold me this motor and a dream, I'm being told basically that my lipos are the issue and they are "not up the job". I wouldn't have a hard time believing this if they sucked on my stock setup, but these are the same lipos that just the other day had the Spartan running in the 48-51mph range consistently and now all of a sudden on the new motor/esc/prop combo with the timing set at 15 like I was told, its in the low 40s mph range and the batteries are to blame??? I obviously don't understand much about this rc boating stuff if this is a true statement. Can anyone here shed some light on this statement other than "your lipos suck, my motor rocks and should have you in the 70 mph range"????
what lipos are you using and what is your CG set at, also strut angle?.NAMBA20...Caterpillar UL-1, P-Spec OM29, P-Mono DF33, P-Spec JAE, Aussie 33" Hydro-LSH, Sprintcat CC2028 on 8s, PT SS45 Q Hydro, PS295 UL-1 power, OSE Brothers Outlaw QMono 4-sale, Rio 51z CC2028 on 8sComment

Im using two different sets of batteries....Traxxas 25C(50C burst) 5000mah and Zippy Flightmax 45C 5000mah. The CG I haven't really figured out yet and the strut is about 1 or 2 mm up from the neutral position. When she's up and running, most of the hull is out of the water so its not being slowed down by running wet or anything like that.Comment

Still need some good pictures of the setup and info on the motor,
Also what other props do you have on hand ?Comment

In the picture that is two 3s 45c 5000mah packs in series right ?
Also how much of a gap do you have at the prop dog and stinger ?
I can not tell from that picture,
A side shot would be a lot better to see the hardware setting.
And a straight shot of the transom dead center and low enough to see the hull bottom and spacing to the trim tabs.
But I also think that your trim tabs could be adjusted down to far to,
And they could be slowing the boat down.
I would make them even with the bottom and then move them all up 3/16" to 1/4" and see how it runs and check speeds,
You may need to move the cells forward a little for better CG of the hull and to keep the boat on the water.
Step by step and it may get a little more speed,
Good luck today and test smart and don't push it yet or it may blow over with the adjustment I said.Last edited by lenny; 06-03-2013, 06:48 PM.Comment

Lenny,
You are correct on the batteries. Here's a pic of the gap between the drive dog and stinger. My trim tabs are all at the neutral position for these runs and in the pics I posted up earlier. I finally got some video footage which Im currently editing so I can post the links on here to youtube. Top speed I got was 59.2 which is almost 3mph more than last time, but the lake was glass today, so Im thinking that may be why. It's still not where I want it to be, nor where I was told it'd be by no means, but Im really hoping to figure this out. My other option is to put the 1800kv Castle motor back in with the 180A ESC and X450 prop. I have a feeling it'll scream with the higher kv motor. Hopefully I'll get it done tonight(I have never edited any videos with the youtube editor so we'll see how that goes)

Here's the very first video I took today in raw form.....Lenny I'm sure will greatly appreciate it based on his warnings issued to me.....
I'm not sure why the sound is so low...I had the setting to the max on my video camera but the mic might be messed up. The camera is a Drift HD and I have a head strap on.
