Cool, thanks. No worries I'm new to the forum learning eticut too. The thread appeared to have several guys with knowledge trying to help so I figured its a good spot to discuss my situation.

Off topic, what does changing the timing on a brushless motor affect its performance?

Timing changes mainly affects efficiency. An inefficient motor will result in excessive heat build up. Timing changes may also yield performance in speed, but usually 1mph or less and alot of times no speed increase at all, so, nothing noticeable as far as that goes really.

Since adjusting the timing mainly effects efficiency, do most motors come with the proper timing already set? Or do different set ups like prop, batteries, ect call for the timing to be adjusted so that the motor runs best for each particular set up?

brushless motors dont have the timing adjusted on them, the timing is adjusted on the esc.
d wind motors 0-3 degrees timing
y wind motors 11-15 degrees works best

Is your boat doing something like this(above)?
The wind was ripping pretty good that day......

Speed, you mentioned adjusting the strut angle, but said nothing about the strut depth. If your strut is adjusted too deep, which can easily happen when trying to angle the prop down, the hull will ride too high up and let air right under it. Less than an 1/8" adjustment can be the difference between staying down or taking flight when you get up to 60's-70's. You may want to try raising it up a touch. Aside from that, like others have said, the boat wasn't exactly built for those speeds.
Where in MA are you? I am in Canton, just south of Boston. FYI, OSE is out of Chelsea, and you can order and pick up at his little shop to save on shipping, especially if your looking at a new hull.

              Kevin,

I don't understand your question if my boat is doing something like this (above)?

About my strut depth, I'm not sure of that. I assume the depth of my strut is how MG comes stock. When I got my boat the strut was completely straight, which was fine @ stock speeds. Cris from FD is who explained to me how to adjust it but told me to adjust it very little at a time and I have only done it once which is why I think i should adjust it a bit more and try that out.

I'm located in plymouth. I am the one who sent you a PM a few weeks ago that my neighbor has a spartan and that we are setting up some markers to make a track on our lake this summer. But I think I should get my boat dialed in a bit or learn to drive it before I try racing it. Haha

I just thought I'd post the quick video I had of my cat taking flight, no real question there.

I have cleared my PM box, so if you did give me your #, I lost it already. If you want, you can PM me your phone # and we can get together and maybe I can help with setup a bit(not that I'm an expert), I'll surely be running at some point this weekend, probably late mornings.........
I also have a gps you can try to get some real speed readings.

Pm sent. I see your track link but not the boat vid. I'll check it out when I see it.

                    Heaving,

My motor is 82mm X 40 and 1800 kv It's pretty big. Today I'm modding the cover that goes in the inside to fit because since the motor is so big it won't close

ok, so its a 4082 leopard motor. too small for a sprintcat or avenger really imo. thats a good size for either a mean machine or fightercat cheetah

Cool. Thanks for the tips. I'm going to fix the crack tonight so that I can get back on the water. I think I'm going to hold off on buying a new hull just yet. That way I can learn more about them before I pick one and ill have some time to improve my driving skills too. I've been watching the YouTube vids of the mentioned boats on this thread. Some of these boats look real stable at high speeds even in choppy water so I need to read up on them before I pick one

I was a gas guy . I ran a 49" crackerbox with a. Midwest pro mod motor . I now owne a blackjack 29 . The boat is real fast ! And it handles like a dream . I will give you some real good advice .change the cheap connectors do not overpower the motor with high voltage batteries . Being fast is fun !but I would rather run a little slower and finish the race . Proboat support staff is the best people that I have ever worked with .we were running high power batteries and burnt the motor up two times . We just ordered another blackjack 29 We are real happy now

my esc went first after changing the connectors running 6s, swapped it out for a hv 130a seaking. then the other day the motor finally went, it was actually one of the motor wires that broke off inside the can. just put the sk3 1900kv turnigy motor in and ill see how that runs with a m440 prop. if i cant get temps and amp draw down then i will install the sk3 1600kv i have. the stock 6 pole 1800kv motor is strong but works much better on 4s or you can push it with 6s on 0 timing
