Hi guys,
I'm fairly new to this site and I would appreciate your opinion from any of the experienced boaters here.
Several months ago I was looking to get my first rc boat, so the miss geico grabbed my attention the most. I found a great deal for a used generation 1 and bought it. Shortly after I wanted to go faster so I put a 180 esc, 4.8 hp motor. Octura 642 and a 646. I run it sometimes w 4s sometimes 6s so it's now very fast for me. No GPS but with 6s I estimate high 60's maybe 70 if I could keep it in the water. I'm clearly still learning to control it. I even changed the angle of the prop to try to push the nose further in and usually keep the batts forward also.
So with that being said I opened her up this morning and she took flight. When I brought her back in I noticed the hull started to split on the side of the sponson a little bit more forward than mid boat. So what advise I'm looking for is 1 is the hull compromised or will it perform the same after I fix it? 2nd if it is fixed properly, can that boats setup be dialed in so that it handles well at those speeds? 3rd am I better off buying a different cat or hydroplane hull and putting my new hardware in it, so that it can run at those speeds and stay in the water?
The reason I think buying a new hull is a good idea 1 because I want more stability at these high speeds. 2nd I have a young son that I was about to buy a boat for. So if I purchase a new hull for myself. I can repair MG, put her back to stock with a small prop to keep her around 30mph then it would be his.
Thanks. Just curious what you folks recommend about my situationComment

you have roughly a 3700 watt motor, plenty to push a much bigger and more capable boat, I prefer the aeromarine sprintcats or th new mini avengers (Team Believer with new hatch) , and a lot of people like the FC cheetah, I would recommend any of those for your motor setup. We call ourselves the "Q"Comment

The motor is from Fine Design Marine. Chris, one of the owners there has been very helpful to me. Speaking to him is extremely informative. He told me that they rate motors that way. He also gave me the kv rating, which I believe is 1800. Either way the motor much bigger and way more powerful than what my boat came with.
So what I'm trying to figure out is if these MG hulls can be set up to run so fast and stay in the water, or what cat/hydro hulls run stable in the 60's through 70's?Comment

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I have a lot of work going on today but I will read up on all the above mentioned hulls tonight.
I agree with the above comment that I have plenty of power for a bigger hull. Since this is a fast set up for me my priority is to increase the stability. But at the same time I don't want to sacrifice much speed to be a bit more stable.
ThanksComment

Well the aeromarine hulls can handle quite a bit of speed and are pretty strong. Mine has been flipped numerous times at 60 without any cracks. Mean machine, avenger any of them. The fightercat hulls are good tooComment

Thanks Heaving,
Out of these several hulls which one do you think is the most stable?
For cats the MG is the only boat I've driven and when she gets up to high speeds, she takes flight and flips easy. So I'm really looking for a boat that will stick to the water betterComment

I think they're all equally good honestly. I only own aeromarine, but others that own fightercat hulls, like the cheetah, say its a very good boat as well. Pick which one you like really.Comment

Been dealing w FD for almost 10 years, with not one issue, I know all the horror stories. HP rating are just like watt ratings just do the conversion. Chris changes the wattage to HP because people like to hear HP#'s. It's not decieving it's just conversion. He doesn't inflate them or change them they are just what they are rated by the manufacturer, and yes the manufacturers definately inflate their #'s. Back to the Hull, the FC cheetah looks really nice and I've heard good things, but the sprintcat and Team believer hulls have been around fo almost 20 years and have won LOTS of races. Mine is setup as an offshore boat and has won the Q-offshore Nat title 4 years in a row, and yes it handles like on rails, full speed corners and the like, mine is in the 60's for 4 minutes on 6s 10,000 mah I also prop up and have run in the 70's with big cats in open cat racing, my cat has been upside down maybe twice in 6 years of racing it!!!!We call ourselves the "Q"Comment
