So if Doug is correct in saying "These classes were the extension of the brushed 700 LSH, LSO and OPC classes that we have been run for many years prior" then they really were intended to be a beginners class once upon a time.
We probably should forget what it is/was/usta/spota be and figure out what it needs to be today. It needs to be a common place where veterans and newbs can co-exist and have fun together. It needs to be relatively simple and relatively competitive. It needs to be accessible to everyone without an extendive knowledge of all things FE.
I feel like the NAMBA limited rules do that. I may be bias.
The only debate (that I'm aware of) with IMPBA vs NAMBA is the speedo itself. NAMBA doesnt have the speedo limit but if a club or district wanted to limit it they certainly could. Could IMPBA just do the same thing? Let clubs decide instead of mandating it? Then we all have a very similar rules set no matter where we go. Howard just passed out.............

iii) In addition, the CD has the discretion to allow the following:
(a) An aftermarket motor that is a re-labeled and exact copy of any approved motor.
(b) Any generational change of an approved motor, or a motor that is used in a Ready To Run (RTR) offering from a manufacturer that produces over 100 units of said offering, as long as there is no more than a 5% increase in any of the following manufacturers specifications as compared to any single approved motor: Kv, maximum constant amperage rating, mass, and MSRP.
(c) The race flyer shall list additional allowed motors for the event
So on a club level would this open the door to motors outside the specified list like the ones ray linked to in one of his post. The way it reads to me is that the CD has the final say. This is from the NAMBA rule book so I may be way off.Comment

Biggest difference, aside from the tech, is that we were smart and expanded the concept to all hull type. Hopefully we'll take it one step further one of these days and implement a heat racing class for Cat hull types as well...

Chuck, The original draft of D12 FE rules I wrote up called for open ESC's in the P-Limited classes. The only opposition I got on the entire draft was the use of open ESC's by several voting board members who attend the majority of district races as well as the World Tunnel Championships. They already had P-Limited Tunnels and wanted our rules to mirror the rules that they run at the WTC. It was a small price to pay to get their support for the whole package. The irony of this is the WTC rules were modeled after a set of rules from a NAMBA Club.
PS- Possible meeting this Saturday between ODMBA and VA Beach Parks and Rec ref a pond near the Virginia Beach Amphitheater
