    Esc?

While running my BJ29 today for about 2 minutes the boat just stopped working and was dead in the water. So I rowed out in the canoe and retrieved it. After getting it to shore I opened the canopy and hatch and saw no visual damage and ESC and motor werent that hot. I turned everything off and back on again..no power to motor but the rudder control still work. Also the ESC doesnt beep anymore which leads me to believe its the esc. Sound right??This is my first boat so Im still learning and hoping someone with more experience than me help diagnosis the problem. Im running the boat on 2- @ HYPERION 2s 5000mah and it was only its 9th run since i got it 3 months ago. ....not only do I want to fix the boat but try to find out why it happened. Thanks in advance for any help....

Well it sounds like the esc. You have good batteries so I don't think it's that. Try checking the solder connections between the esc and motor maybe something is loose.

What connectors are in the setup, Cells, Esc. Motor ?
Also, Why did you need to take the water jacket off before ?
And can you post some pictures of the setup in the boat with the cells in place and also the strut and hardware setting ?
Or video of it running would be great.

I was running 4S...2- Hyperion 7.4V, 45c, 5000mah. All connections are stock...EC3 on batterys and 4mm on ESC to motor. The motor is also stock 1800kv dynamite. I didnt take the water jacket off...the reason I originally wanted to was one of the threads in the motor would not tighten down and I had to rotate the motor to mount in the other threads and wanted the cooling lines to be in the original position, but after running it it seemed to be getting water just fine so I didnt. The boat died while at 1/4 throttle for 30 seconds, this was after about a 30 second full throttle "blast". I did raise the drive height up slightly before this run but probably only 1-1.5 mm. I did notice it was bouncing more than before when the drive height was lower and was bringing her in too lower back the DH.

If you have another brushless motor you can plug into the ESC I would try that first. And as recommended, I would check the motor wire connectors to make sure none came loose..gently tug on the connector and a if it pops off. Could just a easily be a motor failure.
Oh, and check your batteries to make sure they have a good charge...I know, captain obvious here

Double checked battery and recharged them. All connections look/feel good. The ESC no longer makes the beeping noise when I power it on, which is why I was guessing it was the ESC. So know that I have to replace the ESC...what would be a good upgrade. Does it make sense to switch to a different motor as well? or is the dynamite ok?

The motor is where the beeping come from when connected to any esc.
Those stock connector are bad news and should be up graded to 5.5 from the start.
Also try a rebind to the TX to RX and a recalibrate the throttle range to the TX to.
It should be still under warranty,
And do not take no for an answer from them.

As lenny said, the motor is what does the beeping....I'd still plug in another motor just in case.
If you don't have another motor, you could pull yours motor apart and make sure it all looks good inside, wires connected properly, windings not shorted out by motor mount screws, etc...
                    Best of Luck!

I will contact horizon hobbies and see what they say. In the meantime I want to replace the ESC and Motor. Was going to do this at some point anyway...was thinking of going with a SK 180A, what what would be a good match for a motor on the BJ29 hull? Will this ESC handle 6s? I am running 4-S now but might uprgrade eventually. ESC and Motor are first and want to order the pair for OSE tomorrow once I get an idea of a good match....again, thanks for all the help guys.

                        Do you want a 4s rocket ?

                        Or a 6s sport runner ?

I haven't gotten to use it since the strut adjustment, I also just ordered an m445 so might be able to take in out in 2-3 weeks!
