Do your battery leads not reach each other or the ESC or something.

normally i would just have the one wire between the negative and positive but decided to make a plug so if i wanted to i could just run one 4 cell straight to the esc or a 5cell

He did not have the correct "gender" plug that could be connected to his ESC from the batteries. So instead of re-solder a "male" plug on the pos. lead on the ESC, he deviced this connector to compensate for it, along the line it also helped him to use 5s set -up.
That is how I understand this, but as I always say, I COULD BE WRONG!!!

I get that part, but why all the connectors for a series setup? And why any connectors for one 4 or 5s pack? Just plug the pack into the esc! Am I goin nuts here? Wtf is going on?!?! In either case, he has absolutely no need for any extra wires....

I was/am confused too dana. For all the soldering wouldn't it have been easier just to change the connectors that needed to be changed?
Also instead of cutting off connectors I just unsolder them and reuse them, plus your wire and connectors will already be tinned. Unless they are burnt by the arcing.
