powering large boats with electric

I'm not sure what size shafts those motors have. Someone will know. They're likely 8mm. I think Steve sells them here. If not BOCA bearing has them. They're website can be difficult to navigate your first time.

I would go 8mm on the connectors if I were building it myself.

I like fightercat racing couplers. Not sure where those come from or if they're still available.

FC sells a nice 2028 mount too. Again, availability question.

Low kv and higher cell count will usually pull less amps, that means keeping things cooler, and less risk of cooking everything. A friend is comfortably running a 65-70mm prop on a 54" hull with 730kv and 12s. Had it been a 1400 kv on 6s could be a heat problem.

A single 5692/730 on 12S will give better performance than 26+ gas in that hull ... but runtime is worth considering before you buy motors.
Neu2215 is far more efficient than the leos.. but bang for buck value, leo win

I would get an aeromarine Coupler they are best out there by far and built to last,you can also get replacement Brass insert's for them as well that way if the guy does not tighten down the Flex Coupler enough all he has to do is replase that Brass peace and not the whole thing.

I'm going to be using these Battery plug's and I'm not sure if anyone sell's them in the State's but you could ask if someone is ordering from HobbyKing anytime soon and see if they can these plug's to there order to help save on the shipping and these are really cheap as well I got 5 bag's of them,I heard some guy's say they work fairly well and I like the fact they have a plastic housing so you don't got to worry about short's,the olny thing I found is was I had to put a small drill bit in a pair of Vicegrip plier's and use it as a tool to push them together when I was done solder the end on and when I push I mean I had to push really hard so you know they are'nt pulling out anytime soon.

Also you can be sure wih Steven he will not sell you something off this site if it was not good enough for one of his boat's and I heard that many time's,for example he is not going to sell you any old 3 1/6F FlexShaft just you asked for a 3 1/6 Flexshaft he will sell you the best one he can find to keep in stock so it does not break easy and you loose a Prop and a Flexshaft.

Are you saying you've got a 57mm prop on one side and a 60mm on the other? If so, why the different size props ? I could hazard a guess, but better to get the facts....!

not dumb..... just, err... roflol

same sizes both sides, like x457L+R or X460L+R
smaller equals more runtime, larger equals faster... in this setup anyhoo.

Buy better, use heatshrink..

I got some more e-mails and my customer is wanting a 100 mph boat, (Does'nt everyone).I do not know if I can get there with the 2028 castle motors based on what I can find video's of boats running. However I did find a thread just a few post down here on OSE on a 53" cat running 91mph with the thought that a 100 was doable with what they had. there is no reason our 7" longer boat will not run as fast, 3" of that is the overhang in the back, so in a way it's only a 57" boat.Of course I can be wrong, the castle boat I saw,I think was 41" and was trying to get 70mph on 9s and was a single motor,he was not there yet. so now that I have given a goal on what he wants, what do I need to recommend,still would like to use 10s per motor.

I recommend your customer find himself religion, and pray for a miracle.

There are very few people here who can rightly claim membership that 100+ club.
Some here chasing speed buy all the proven 100mph equipment, read all the threads, yet lack the 'right stuff' to achieve that goal.

Ask your customer his budget, and get back to us !

My 54" MHZ is doing 80mph on 6s with Lehner 2280/5 1380kv motors. With a bit of luck I should be doing well over 100 on 8s. My goal is to keep her light and using smallish props. Currently running 457 reduced to 52. Would also consider 450/3. The 2028 should be more than plenty as long as you select the right kv plus right cell count and of cause selection of props.

My 54" Mhz Drambuie on Ice, went 91 mph in testing weighing in at 30+ lbs, NUE 2215 2.5 Y, on 12S. 2720 abc props, just stepped up to 7018-3 vodoo props. will see where that goes.

well on the gas side of the house our 50" thunderbolt, powered with a s520 inline twin runs 84 mph at 26 lbs, and has won the first ever I.M.P.B.A twin outrigger class, with 6 outriggers entered our cat won, I do not know my way around electric very well, but I do know boats, with over 50 different hulls from airboats to sail boats to hydro's, my friend and fellow boater held the #1 plate in pro stock motorcycle racing for 2 years straight,If I can get the right gear in my hands, we will make it work, and it will work well,I cant go from flying a 200+mph bvm f-16, Or road racing my gsx-r 1000 at near 200 mph on the banks of Daytona speedway to a plastic Traxxas villain, thay have there place, but its not with me.I'm hopping to get past this question of experience and move into how do we get it done,And what items do we need to do it.The numbers and results posted bye kingwrench are a big step in that info needed,Now that you have run the boat, and you say it was with a 600kv motor, would you have gone to a higher kv now if you where building the boat over again? ON a side note, I do appreciate all the info and advice given to me, so Im not trying to sound like a jackass on this post,I know this will not be easy, being in the model business for 22 years is not easy. But I would not be doing it if it was.I'm in it for the challenge,To me this research and questions asked is the 1st step in achieving my goals. I think at this level there is no room to sugar coat anything. as far as budget goes, and this guy might not be it. but there are planty of guys with money, most could care less about our hobby.I have had customers come in my shop drop 2000.00 on a boat to have while they where in Florida,and say when they go back home they my never use it again.I built a MTI for geico that did not even run.just a model of there boat. and they spent 1000.00 to have it shipped overnight to las vegas.My point is if I build It they will come,LOL.And the they I'm talking about are normally not guys you see at the lake.
