Detailing petrol boats in an electrics forum is like showcasing Kawasaki to a Harley convention !
Castle 2028 and Ice200Hv on 6s2p or 8s2p is good solid proven power.
For purely handling benefits in corners, go the counter rotating prop option.
60" is a large hull in the FE game in US and Australia ... Ive no experience over 56".
2 bladed props will push a cat to higher top speed .. and a wild ride in fast corners
3 bladed will accelerate faster, but from experience the top end is less.
Id begin small with X457/2 for shi.tz-n-giggles.. then prop up until expectations of speed and survivability are met.
Prop-shop 5518/3 are a good allrounder for the power detailed here.

I normally get good feed back from my 100 mph wheelies in the rain on my gsx-R 1000 by Harley guys when I do poker runs with them,LOL I race my cbr600, but I really act a fool on the gsx-R, racing is a great way to cross over and find common ground,I think if you are into boats, you are into boats, and what is powering them is not a big deal. This is a little of what i do outside of modeling.Comment

Well, I just ordered 2 castle 200 esc's. I think with what I have been able to find,The feedback on the castle is all pretty positive. The swordfish has been mixed.I will say mainly good though.I also do not feel castle over rates there product, so them saying it will handle 12s, should make my 10s application pretty easy.(I hope) I think for the extra money. the peace of mind is well worth it.Plus I'm familiar with castles service and it's pretty good. so that means a lot.I think if me and Keith can work something out I will be using his motors.I'm very happy to be doing this build and getting this much needed info to do it.we just finished the MTI that was ahead of this one and will be started on this boat today.Comment

I meant to get started yesterday, but I waited to long in the day. And like always in Fla, we got rain.So with a 62" MTI already sprayed and ready to lay up. We have plenty of work to do today anyways. So we waited until today. With molds waxed, we got the gel coat sprayed on the 60" boat. The goal here is to get a even 17mils layer over the whole surface of the mold. This thread will show what goes into a 350.00 carbon fiber hull.Gel coat bought in 5 gallons cost 150.00, of course its cheaper in a 55 gallon drum. But it can also go bad. so this insures good fresh gel, the MTI uses about 2 quarts. This step takes about 20 minutes to wax and prep molds,we use hi-temp release wax, then mixing spraying and cleaning up take another 30 minutes.Comment

There was some question on how many would really want to go this big, this is a MTI we just finished for a customer that saw this thread, and is going electric,So thank you OSE.To have guys play big boats, you have to make the playground,LOL I hope you guys enjoy our boats, and what they bring to the hobby.Comment

ok, so here is the hull,We have already done the deck. the putty is a mix of aerosils and resin, and is used to fill in those tight corners that the mat simply will not lay down in.(you want a pudding type thickness) Once applied to all corners. We wet out the whole part with a coat of resin. then put in a layer of 1 1/2" mat, then that gets wetted out as well, the wetter the better. This method makes rolling the part out easier,Rolling out the part is the most important step. You can not leave any air trapped between Your mat and gel coat. It's best if you walk around the part and view from all angles. It's very easy to miss a air pocket,So check and check again. After we are happy with job done rolling out the matt, all the resin has been pushed to the top, now we lay in the pre-cut pieces of carbon(5.8 oz carbon fiber twill)In there locations in the mold.we have pre sprayed the carbon with spray adhesive before cutting to size to keep it from coming apart while handling it.you need to let it dry for a hour or so before using. this was done before we started mixing any puddy or resin.then with a brush you work each piece of carbon into its final spot. use the side of the brush,as the points of the bristles can work there way through and put air back into your rolled out matt. keep whipping your brush off on the side of your resin cup, to dry it again so you can keep removing excess resin as you force it through the carbon.while working it in place with the side of the brush.Once you are happy walk away and stop screwing with it.check back on your part in about 20 minutes and wait till its almost to hard to cut, but not. and trim your trim edge.If it has gotten to hard dont force it, just do more work the next day and cut off wheel it close then grind.Forcing it can ruin your part, cut your trim edge from the inside out, other wise you can push it away from the mold, and ruin your part.Comment

This thread will soon get lost in the Q&A area.
Hopefully one the mods will select a start point in here and cut and paste into the boat building area.

Nitrogen is used to produce ammonia (Haber process) and fertilizers, vital for current food production methods. It is also used to manufacture nitric acid (Ostwald process).
In enhanced oil recovery, high pressure nitrogen is used to force crude oil that would otherwise not be recovered out of oil wells. Nitrogen’s inert qualities find use in the chemical and petroleum industries to blanket storage tanks with an inert layer of gas.Do It Like You Mean It .....or Don't BotherComment

Thanks for your pm's on this, I spoke with a friend of mine and he said the moister is only part of the problem with resin. but the bigger problem is separation.after around 90 days the resin separates in the drum, and simply goes bad.But in having that conversation he also said what goes Bad does not offset the savings on a drum over 5's. So I may have to look in to that.Comment

Well I have a perfect deck and hull laid up. now for the cut down,The semper fi MTI is the inspiration for this cut down, also on this thread we talked about the boat grabbing to much air as is, so I'm going to work on that.Comment

ok so lets stay with 10s as that's what he wanted to begin with,I do have a question, the 730kv will swing more prop less rpm? the 1090 is more rpm's less prop, less run time? And I do understand set up will also play a roll but in general my bigger boats will be looking for more prop and less kv.Am I correct on this thinking? also I probably don't want to send a boat that could be really dangerous short of running into someone, to a customer I do not even know. so would you say 10's is probably where my cap should be?And just let customers go from there.I am very glad to be getting this info, will help a lot in me having an idea of what im talking about, And of course that will equal more boaters in our hobby. That's great for all of us.
Im using 2 x Turnigy 5682 1050kv motor with 2 x SF 240a(added cap's), 10s lipo and x457 prop's. It run pretty fast on my EPV135(54"). I would think it works with 60" boat of yours. x450 prop should be a good start and would not harm the motor and esc's but be very careful when using HV setup, very dangerous if you don't have any experience with itStiletto tunnel,EPV135 (53") twin cat, CT06"Spirit of Qatar", FD 47" mono, Twin Mini Cat 23.5"Comment

Thanks a lot, if you dont mind post some info and pics of your boat.a picture is worth a 1000 words, plus I could learn something from it.my cut down is going pretty well, about five trips to the cutting and grinding table and i have a pretty nice fit, probably lost 3/4" of hieht in the process. we will be joining her tonight.Another night of building boats with my other half. we are knocking out a 62" MTI as well.Comment
