Well they asked what it would be used on. I said a boat, and they immediately said it would not work being submerged in water and wear off. Something about the paint needs to breath and not be in constant contact with water. So I said if I put this on my car and water is on it it will wear off? They said water is not in constant contact with your car? I said well some states a car can be snowed in for months or some states have rain for weeks and months so what's the difference? They could not answer except that it's not made to be submerged in water.

I have had really good results with Krylon paint. I followed the procedures on the OSE "tips" section-- wetsanding between coats, etc.
Other tips I use-- heat the rattle can in really hot water, use a "mist" coat first, and very important-- apply the 2nd or 3rd coat within the correct window for color coats. After the color coats are done, I wait 1 week, then apply 2 clear coats (need to allow the base color to competely cure before appying clear).

The Tenshock mono 1 was done with regular Krylon, using a primer coat first.
The OPC Tunnel was done with Krylon Fusion, without a primer coat.

      Chief

PS, the Coca Cola is actually painted on-- I used a sencil on the lettering (it was a reverse logo vinyl logo), taped up the entire boat, and sprayed on about 5 really light coats of white. Geico are decals with pin stripes (winshield is also krylon paint).

Kewl thank you for you help. I agree about the Krylon, at least the flat white color. It comes out rough and sandy and I spent too much time sanding. The Rust-Oleum was very smooth and even. Love it!!

I'll try it next time I have a paint project so I at least have something to compare...

What are you guys using to polish after you wet sand the clear coat. I started with 1000 then went to 2000 but I can't seem to get the fine I guess they're scratches out. I'm using turtle polishing compound and a terry applicator then removing the haze with a micro fiber cloth. Doing it by hand now, do i need to borrow a buffer from a buddy? Or am I using the wrong stuff.

I used rustoleom crystal clear, not the automotive .

I actually don't sand the final clearcoat at all (I wetsand the first clearcoat, but leave that last clear coat alone). If I needed to do a final polish, I would probably use automotive polishing compound, then wax, not sandpaper for the last stage.

not the prettiest on the inside, but functional. I will probably end up putting a p spec motor and a t120 in it for Winter warm ups but for now the 4074 will be fun. I wish i had some 90* water fittings for the esc to clean up the cooling lines a bit but i used the ones i had on another boat.

It's rare I make a promise to anyone, but I can promise you the Rust-Oleum will come out so much more even and it's really hard to goof it.

                              I tested the Rust-Oleum's.

What was done was sprayed 5-6 coats on base white Rust-Oleum paint on some test plates. Let it dry for 5 days. I placed a 1" drop of water on each and let is sit for two hours. All passed except the Rust-Oleum Automotive one. It left a nice round circle spot burnt into the clear. It was removable with some body wax, but that tells me it's not as durable as the others in comparison. The Rust-Oleum Appliance Epoxy was tested also and passed.

So the Automotive is no good. The Crystal Clear Enamel and Appliance Epoxy passed the same test-at least the water test.

One last test was to see if any would withstand some chemicals; only the Appliance Epoxy passed.

                              So the winner is: 821537158_260.jpg

                              Hope that helps.
