    P shootout aftermath

Probably the wrong word. How about "afterglow"?

I'd like to thank Steven Vaccaro. He's supported races and racing in general all over the country. Through this forum and with his hard earned dollars where he can. He's supported our MMEU races for years. Steven, we really do appreciate it.

This new site is awesome. The Elks lodge was extremely accommodating. Kabota Ken (he has a real name BTW) escorted every racer via Kabota to their pit area and back so they didn't have to carry their gear. We had spectator seating. There was food on site. Beverages available. The Elks were so thrilled with the way things were going that they were working on us Saturday night to get started planning next years race. Kabota Ken and I were out fishing from the dock at 1:00 am.

The pond was not perfect in my opinion but it was manageable. There were no complaints or problems. Just not up to my expectations. We have that all figured out though. Next year look out.

The MMEU gang really pulled together for this. Nobody was strung out trying to do everything. It was a fantastic group effort. Fred Siewert is still the hardest working man in FE racing though. Thanks man. I wouldn't even try these without you.

In the end for me......this was the most satisfying race I've been involved in. Many times after hosting a race I'm completely barbecued after. I don't even want to look at boats. I'm already planning my next build and I'm absolutely fired up for Michigan Cup for next summer. That's a club decision of course but I talked to almost everybody about it over the weekend. Honestly, if we could do it next weekend I would be up for it.

I think there was was some racing too......haha The course was dead on accurate. There were at least 5 records that could have been applied for. Ball destroyed the OPC time. There were fast times in OPC, LSH, Q sport, P limited mono, and P mono. Apparently nobody really cared. I think we were all having too much fun. We'll get those times up if anyone is interested just for their own personal use but they are NOT records.

The shootout format ensures that your driving against boats that perform similarly after the first round. Makes for some really even deck to deck racing and extremely close scoring. When Fred heals up we'll get the results up.

Oh, there was runoff in our SV27 class between the wily veteran Mike Ball and 12 yo young gun Ty Davis. There's a video. We'll get it. Highlight of my weekend. That kid is coming around. Placed first in 2 classes.

    Terry/ Ken/ Bob/ Fred/ Elks....etc....etc..........

Thanks for your hospitality and taking the time to put on this event, it was a class act all around.

Our Club, the Grand River Marine Modellers was well represented with 4 members Dan, Brian, Jack and myself making the 4ish hour trek from the great white north. General consensus is that we will be back next year.

Thanks also for letting me take home 5 trophies, one brand spanking new Grim 4S LiPo and a Brand Spanking new 30" Mono (Raffel prizes)

Some great racing in all classes. For those that are thinking about attending racing events, but maybe have doubts about their boat building skills and or driving abilities, get over it and get on the water... I placed second in LSO with my bone stock Aquacraft Revolt (except for a prop change) out of about 10ish boats. RTR's are competitive.

People are there to help you any time you need it. So join in the fun.

I have about 60 pics and a few vids I'll be posting later on our web site...see link below in my signature.

I keep remembering things to share. You know how at the end of a race you all sit or stand around while the awards are dolled out? Here we have a built in banquet hall. So you race and then can go sit in an air conditioned lodge with an adult beverage in hand for awards and the raffle.

John is right. Come on in. The water's fine. You don't need high zoot gear to compete. Doesn't matter how fast you are if you're upside down. I'm still suprised when people forget to ask for help. Not sure if it's pride or what. Even our own club guys will struggle with something like a lost prop. Ask. Somebody has what you need. I had to borrow a reciever with tape in my hand for a heat. Scrambled and still raced.

            Terry,

I'd be curious as to what the OPC time was...

If you could find the actual numbers, that would be good for comparison... I'd be interested to see what "fast" looks like around the country so us "cheaters" out here on the Left Coast know what's what...

Tyler and I were tied in points after 2 days and five rounds of racing. He finished all of his heats over the weekend and he's done VERY well this season in our Box Stock SV27R Spec class. Not to mention he's been doing his own driving with zero help. The course was a little ways out in the water so the depth perception for the little guy was much tougher than others. Because of how this class is structured, the boats are VERY close in speed and it requires a good start and driving a good line for 6 laps to win a race. You will see in lap 2 (I think) I caught Ty and I was right at is right side door when I bobbled around buoy #6. It took me nearly 3-3.5 laps to catch up, but it just wasn't enough. Tyler worked hard, drove great and deserved the 1st place without question.

I am still working on the video quality... For some reason it's getting screwed up when I upload to youtube.

Oh, Sorry... Not avoiding... I haven't had computer access for a bit as we were out of town on Vacation... I've been a little lax on responding to boating related stuff lately, due to some "complications" (the Honey-do list is taking priority) at home...

Thanks Mike. That was the highlight of the weekend for me. Heck, might be the highlight of my racing ever. In case anyone misses it. Mikes pit man.........Tylers old man.

Darin. Pretty sure OPC was 100.23 seconds. I wouldn't have believed it myself if I didn't have the watch in my hand. Not sure if it's just fast water or what. The water didn't feel particularly fast. It's got trees on every side so even with gale force winds you get about 1.5" chop. It stays near perfect all the time. In OPC though, Mikes boat really is that much faster than the field. No offense to those that ran with him but there was Mike and then everybody else.

PAGS murdered the P mono record too. I was only off the record by about a 10th of a second but we took turns flipping or winning each heat. Mike and I couldn't seem to finish a heat together. I might have speed on him but he's got more expereience with his boat. We pushed each other pretty good each run. We really should have just given the win to Ava. She drove bettrer than both of us. Both our boats are silly fast but if don't finish.......... We planned to let it all hang out in the 4th heat but Mike hit a trurtle and bent up everything.

I thought the records were a big deal to everyone. Even had forms pre-filled out with the location and host club on them. Like I said, nobody cared. So we'll just have our Shadow lake records. The Elks want to put up a plaque with the hot times to beat. Guys are over the top. It's hard to get a handle on them because it doesn't seem possible that they could be as enthusiastic as they are.

Truth be told......If I had any more fun out there I'd probably be dead.
