New guy with a Villian IV, now a rebuild.

Hello all, I'm new to rc boats but not new to RC's .... I've been into rc crawling for years and always wanted a boat... so I finally ran across a villian IV for $25 bucks.... so I figured what the heck....

It looks to be brand new and all stock, not even painted or ever ran....the only problem I have found is where the deck is mated to the hull in the front, the tip might be cracked , but its really small....

first, i'd like to remove the hull from the deck and maybe reseal it, whats the best way to do this without cracking it more?

2nd I'd like to go brushless, 2.4ghz, lipo etc.... to update this thing a bit.... I'd like some cost effective things I can do, or systems to run to see If I have an interest in boats as much as crawlers.... I have a few escs and motors, but I'm not sure they can be used

any help is greatly appreciated, and I've been reading and searching since I got this thing and as i can see some of ya'll have made these things pretty awesome, i'm just looking for a fun all around reliable setup until I learn more about rc boating, then I may try to go as fast as possible....

    You want to go:

    Brushed?
    Brushless?
    Stock twin drive?
    Single drive?
    Lipo?
    Nimh?

I'd like to go easy as possible, reliable and decently fast.... Like I said, I'm new to boats, so I'm looking to learn.....I prefer brushless, but if I can get away brushed I can do that.... I only have lipos, so I'd like to stay with something that will accept lipo....as for drive, probably stock to start with unless it's pretty easy to go single

Stock twin drives would be easiest with the Villain EX setup. Twin Titan 550 23 turn marine motors and a Traxxas EVX2 Marine ESC. You can find them all over ebay. This system runs on two 2s lipos for 4s total and feeds the esc which feeds both motors 4s voltage. You can get about 25-27 mph put of it. The stock Villain IV is painfully slow at around 12-15 mph. Your Villain IV can easily have the EX system thrown in it, drop in fit.

Well cutting the hull open may be a bit excessive . You could dribble some glue inside and then add some two part foam inside the front cavity. Some thin CA would probably fix a small crack drop or two outside then more inside . Take some pictures if you can. And Welcome to the Forum.
Don't forget to put your brain in gear before you engage your mouth! Thanks Dad!

This is the best running Villain with brushed motors and twin stock drive that I have ever come across...........first he runs 12 cells nimh, then 14 which is the same performance you will get with 4s Lipo.

Skip to 1:15 for the 14 cell run..................runs very well.

what do you think about running velineon systems? I have a couple of those....

also what other components need replaced? props, u joints, etc? and which ones? I read about some of the props, but then later saw they were a waste of money..

Thanks, and it looks to be just the top lip where the hull is mated to the deck, its just bent down a tad, its probably still sealed.......what kind of glue do I need to seal this thing up if not?

I believe I'd like to try my velineon setups.... twin VXLs... on 3s...... what else needs to be upgraded, and what parts do I need? I figure I will run a fan on the esc's and watercool the motors.....but I need to know if I need props, Ujoints, trim tabs etc..... and how to setup if its not too much trouble... also what do I need to waterproof this thing if its not? I am gonna do some bathtb testing to see if its leaking anywhere before I paint
