Hadn't figured out the problem yet, I put a new traxxas water proof servo in it and I still get the same thing, I am about to gut this boat and put it all in my geico

stay colm bro,, i have see many videos of these things hitting high speeds and not hooking so i think its gotta be something with owers ingeneral,,, one of my favorite vids is one hitting 84mph and no bounce or hooking and i noticed his rudder is mounted to the transum just to the right of the strut!!! I made some standoffs to put my rudder to the side out of the way of the prop wash but i gotta get her repainted and back together before i can try anything..

Seems like my problem was torque roll, lowered the right side trimtab a bit more and moved my batteries to the left.now it runs straight but now i have to slow down a bit when making left turns.will try moving lipos to the front next time thanks.

I agree that the sudden veering does not seem a typical Genesis characteristic or common problem and would seem to indicate that whatever is causing it may not be related to the normal prop size/pitch, strut height and COG tuning issues. Does it appear to want to get up on the plane OK without any real porpoising etc issues?

Probably not the cause of your problem, but one of the first mods I did to my Genesis was to beef up the servo-to-rudder push rod system. The stock Genesis rod is really quite weak and can flex a lot under load, causing the rudder to shift position quite a bit, even though the servo may be holding it's position well. I changed to a Dubro #144 4-40 threaded rod with a carbon fibre tube slid over it (from Kintec). The connection between servo and rudder is now as rigid and solid and accurate as possible - no bending of the rod under load, as there was with the stock set up. I am also using the Traxxas waterproof 2075 servo.

Well i cant say how im going to paint her cuz i dont no yet but it seems i can get her on plane and up to half or just a hair more throttle and no prob but if i start getting faster than that she pulls hard to the wright,,, cant figure why but as i rebuild her im going to do all that is recomended, new push rod, i have a new traxxas 2075 servo and the mount is good,, and going to try the offsetting of the rudder too.. strut is level with the bottum of the hull, running a m445 prop, batteries are 2x5s 5000s pritty far foreward now!!! have a Leopard 4074 2200kv and SF 200a esc with extra cap bank!! just got one of Sailr's GR 3blade props to try on it too..

For people with the genesis, the standard steering rod isnt the problem, it never has been, the crappy build of the hull is the problem.

Everyone "Upgrades" their steering rod because........

the hole in the back of the hull, that the steering rod goes through, isnt in the same position on all the genesis boats.
some are in the right spot, some seem to be half a CM up, or to the left or right from where it should be.

you can fix your steering problems by removing the servo tray and mounting your servo and rod has more of a straight through to the rudder allignment

Humm ive moved mine afew times due to replacing things in the hull and would have thought id had it straight,, ill have to look at it again before i repaint the hull incase i need to redrill the hole..

The sudden dart to the right that some Genesis appear to have when going in a straight line may well be a servo / linkage problem + inline rudder being in the prop thrust cone adding to this problem. All i know is offsetting the rudder eliminated this sudden dart to the right using the same servo & linkage.

Offsetting the rudder is a good thing but not the super fix all some guys may think. No one believes in the offset rudder concept more than me. I wrote at least two articles that were published in model magazines back in the 70's regarding this subject. Offsetting the ruddder will NOT add any noticable increase in speed. Offseting the rudder to the right will NOT counter a percieved veering to the right because of prop walk. I certainly do not claim to have come up with this concept either. I learned most of what I know from a long time world record boater in this hobby, Ed Fisher. I also have and enjoy running a Genesis and ran it a lot with the inline rudder and also more recently with the offset position. Frankly, I was impressed with how well the boat handled before I switched to the offset position. Sudden darting has in my opinion very little to do with the rudder being in the prop wash. I agree with Andrew's remarks that it seems the Genesis quality control is not what it should be. No doubt the servo trays are not always pre-installed exactly in the right alignment, or the rudder pushrod exit hole is not aligned very well either. Regardless this still does not explain a darting turn to the right situation. I do not feel this is a under powered servo problem nor do I feel this is a flexing push rod problem so the correct answer will have to be settled by a well thought out diagnostic process which we have already described in several messages above in this thread. At this point I still vote for disconnecting the servo from the reciever test. All we need is someone to catch the boat or retrieve the boat without rudder control but full throttle control. Perhaps, without actually seeing the boat exhibit this problem, the boat's CG is so far forward that the bow drops and the stern jumps up then perhaps I can visualize a darting or spin out type of action, but nothing actually steering related.

That's my opinion and I am sticking to it.

Ok so everyone agrees when i get my boat backtogether i need to try running it with no rudder control,, just straight as the boat will go buy itself and see what happens,,, i gess i could just not reinstall my rudder till i get to try this...

Come on HydroJerry work with me here. You need to reinstall the rudder, servo and hook up the linkage. I am suggesting that you do not connect the electrical wires of the servo to the reciever. We need the rudder to stabalize the boat and make it kind of go straight. I would aim the rudder slightly for a left hand turn. Very slightly, anything close to obvious that the rudder is not imparting any right hand turn. That is okay by me. I am going on the belief that even if the boat drifts to the right but that if it does not jerk or dart right that would be an improvement and will tell you something encouraging at that point. Am I right? Let's assume for the moment this does as I expect. That the boat goes close to straight without this jerk or darting situation. Then what? I will cross that bridge when we get to it. However, it would mean the rudder is long enough, in the water deep enough, and the linkage is not flexing or bending. Then we will narrow the problem down to the reciever/servo operation. If the darting problem again surfaces during this no rudder control I am going to believe we need the center of balance moved rearward. Either way I would bet serious money the answer will be revealed doing this.

If it is darting, that hard.. Upgrade the servo linkage. What servo is it? Try to get a straight shot to the rudder control arm. Make sure it isnt running too wet, and raise the strut if it's below the ride pads.
