Well, first I am sorry for the in fighting that seems to crop up over something this simple and forward.

I am going to attempt to give you sound advice that will bring enjoyment to your first electric experience and not risk making that experience a bad experience. It should also be noted I have no sponsorships or reasons to recommend anything over anything else. I took to heart your basic parameters and think this recommendation meets your reqested parameters. Seriously consider this boat in my opinion. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBLMG&P=7

The one thing that brings to this hobby both fun and frustration is the key ingrediant. Water. When working with any of these pricy boats you will find the one important item that is very important and key to continued enjoyment is protection from water intrusion for the electronics. My recommendation does this as good as almost anybody. A very good plus in my opinion. This boat has a very well thought out radio box with a snap over lid that protects the electronics very well.

I first became aware of this boat when a friend of mine that had a whole stable of race quality boats told me that this boat brought to him more fun than any other single boat he had. After 7 or 8 years of doing fast electric boats this boat was still a favorite of his. No it is not the fastest, but it is not slow. No it is not the biggest but it is not small. Do you need to up grade soon after buying this boat. Maybe but not until you are ready to spend more money, this boat is very satisfying as it is.

It is a deep vee hull, many of the other boats recommended here are catamarans. This deep vee may flip over if yoiu get carried away in rough water but more times than not will come out right side up and continue running without a major effort for retreival. Cats the reverse is probably true.

At the time of this post this boat cost $219.00 with no shipping charges. Comes with everything you need, pistol grip 2.4 ghz radio, water cooled brushless motor, electronic speed control, flex shaft, prop almost ready to go except the lipo battery. Carefull.... batteries are the one component that will creep-up and get you. One battery is all you need. Two even better, A few more is a good thing, pretty soon you have more money in batteries than the boat. Sorry that is a true statement.

Anyway, seriously if you get this boat you will still be around next year at this time and still contribute to this forum. Good Luck. If you want to discuss this further email me, leave me a phone number and we can talk.

I thought all 3 AQ boats had the 60 amp esc. I've never even looked in the radio box on mine to see what was in there. It does look like it does have the 45 amp esc.

Somebody mentioned an external LVC. Good plan. We only race 6 laps so we'll never get there with our club racers but if you're just out tooling around it's good insurance.

"My name is NOT Billy – it’s a handle!!

Unfortunately you highly intelligent lads are so busy using your fingers to bash me that you don’t have any time too use your heads for something besides hat racks… "

I would be happy to call you by your actual name, "Billy", but your OSE profile is totally blank.

The story about your sailing trip along our California coast with your mom & dad was well written, & shows you are an intelligent & sensitive man with a sense of humor.

Now lets talk FE boats, please. JIM

Cool looking boat though, if you are into the scale looking thing.

You'll have fun with the SV27R... These have been responsible for bringing many, MANY people into RC Boat racing... so hang onto your wallet!! I dare you to resist the temptation!!
oh darrin how i miss her so im gonna get in trouble if i buy the ebay formula i posted but it was the first brushless i owned and if this week keeps up as good as it has for me i will have to explain to my wife why i am one more bouat over my 8 limit, kent good buy, and im happy everbody has kinda chilled out a little , remember a bunch of guys that work on expensive electronis devices are smart just maybe no so tolerante of others all the time

A friend of mine has the Fastech and i swear I have never seen a boat that seems like its suctioned to the water as it is. Dont know quite how to describe it, but it stays planted very well in my opinion..................I agree that it wouldnt be a great raceboat, but for bashing and such, its a hoot!!!
NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? QUALITY 5.5MM, 8MM, 8 AND 10 AWG, GET THEM HERE: http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...est!&highlight=

The Fastech was my first "real" FE boat-- i loved it. It is super stable at low 40's. Not really a racing hull, but if you want a great looking sport boat that resists capsizing, then the fastech is the ticket. I am sorry that PB discontinued it...

The SV is more tweakable and can work for racing, but will spend more time upside down. But that's ok as the hatch can be taped down properly (fastech hatch cannot be taped well enough to keep the water out if upside down, but does have a water resistant electronics box).

When I ran the boat in its stock form, it was planted on the water, no matter what you do it will not get upset, then i started to fool around with the trim tab, it rolled and actually sank! Luckily I had enough floatation and I got everything back with the exception of the hatch, now I tape it even though it is a pain to tape this particular one. I had the Seaking 180ESC, thirty minutes under water and it still works! motor is fine, radio was Spektrum MR3000 ( water proof). moral to the story? I learned to tape the hatch no matter how unimportant it might seem.
Too many boats, not enough time...

I had a Rio Ep as my first boat and liked, then I got a SV27 and she is what got me hooooooooked to boating. Then some how I went from 2 to 16 (over-night, it seemed like). Now I'm at 6 and trying to get down to 5 (41" Osprey mono for sale if anyone needs a big mono). Planes and Helis have taken over my funds as of late (I'm on a budget), but I always venture back to the boating world and got a nice 37" Explorer sitting in the shop that's gonna need some TLC ($$$) soon. She's to sexy to not be on the water. Anyway if you can't tell R/C is rather addicting (and expensive!). Enjoy!

My friends always say wow that's an expensive hobby. But it's all relative. I build rc boats becuase I can't afford to build full size race boats. So in my eyes it's sure is alot cheaper to build model rtace boats. One day soon I'll be building a full scale race boat. maybe not a twin turbine cat but surely some thing that goes fast.
