Looking for Help picking Electric Boat

I'm looking at getting an Electric Boat.
Was looking at the Minimono but may want something bigger/faster. I plan to run in medium ponds and lakes.
I would like to keep the price low but want some speed.
The Minimono is $130. What's out there for about $200-$250? and will run Lipo batteries.
I want to hear from you what you like.

I've been looking at Thunder Tiger Outlaw jr Brushless http://www.worldhobby.net/index.php?...oduct_id=30037

and Surge Crusher Offshore Brushless http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...g_n_Drive.html

By the way, how much is a 2-way radio with receiver?

I think, for someone on a budget, that the Impulse 26 is a really decent value. Certainly not a high-end package, but it has some nice features and is VERY upgradable. The hull performs well at a variety of speeds, and has a very simple, but solid and reliable, drive system.

For the price, it's a good place to get started, in my opinion... AND, it's not a tiny little "mini-mono" that needs a small running site... it's a decent sized boat that can handle up to 4S Lipos and a pretty decent upgraded power system.

if at all possable, save your money for a few weeks and get the geico. it is a great rtr package that produces decent speed and great reliability for entry level boaters.

I have a brand new in the box supervee 27r comes with 2.4 radio, brushless and is lipo ready. It was a display model at hobbytown. I'm friends with the owner and he said I can have it for $250 ($329.99 at towerhobbies). It's yours if you want it. It's a great boat I have one myself. I have changed a few things and put a $36 motor in it and it's hitting 53mph on radar. Here's a link to the Manuf. site.

and a pic of mine topping 50mph

Listen to darin, he designed this boat and knows what he's talking about,
If $ is an issue the impulse 26 is a great buy.
I don't have one yet, I have the 31 but the impulse 26 is in the near future.

I agree on Darrin's post, the point was that if you wish for a wee bit more upmarket boat you may find your hull....radios that is another story.

I don't know where you get your info, but Darin Jordan does NOT work for ProBoat. He worked WITH Proboat to refine and re-design the Miss GEICO. ProBoat is but one of many of his sponsors.

I have a Miss GEICO in my FE fleet, and in my not-so-humble opinion, the Miss GEICO is at the top of the list for a well made, fast (50MPH) in stock form, is a great handling competetive P class FE Offshore race boat when modified, and is very reasonably priced.

Seems like nobody answered your question about which TX/RX to buy and cost. I use a Fly Sky FS GT3B TX/RX 2.4 GIG set that can be bought for less than $40, with additional RX's for under $10. It's a great radio system and has never been hit with radio interferance of failed me in any way.JIM

I can't say anything about AQ because I don't own anything by them but Proboat/ Horizon Hobbies.....Proboat to me is quality backed up by Horizon which I could never say enough about. Horizon has gone above and beyond since I got into the boat side of RC.Their customer service and tech support is amazing and I am sure AQ's would be the same at Tower Hobbies, that is the only way to stay above the rest in a competitive market now days! But simple bashing on people and good companies for no reason is harsh.

I must admit Im shocked nobody has recommended a pursuit. It will end up going over the budget at some point, but it is possible to get going with the basic kit. Just be aware you will want to upgrade and probably will have to in the future.

This hobby is an addiction. SPEED. Once you get out and get a few good runs in you will want to go faster, faster and faster.

OSE has the boat with the good motor/esc combo. This is the true cost of the boat by the time you upgrade. So you can string it out or just get it right off the bat.

Kintec offers the same boat with a few options unlike the other stores.

Lastly good old Hobby King. This is the basic kit with no ESC. The motor is small and you will probably be not satisfied with the speed.

Where at in Ohio are you Kent55? If you are in the Toledo area let me know. I can show you my collection of boats, most of which are under construction (lol). I should have most up and running by end of next month.

I was game for a Surge Crusher once upon a time. I didnt pull the trigger on one and Im glad. They just dont seem very impressive.

There are some good quality chinese boats out there, but they almost all require work and hop ups to be fast and reliable. With your budget this is probably where you will need to be.
