    In the use I have in mind (large hydro like an Insane Thunderboat) I would rather err on the side of caution. But hey, if it turns out it's not needed, then that's fine by me.

        Ron the quote below is part of what I sent the machinist last night. I measured twice, but It is possible I'm going nuts

        I just received my first batch of 22 series neu motors.
        The case is finned. The smooth part of the casing measures 2.26", finned area is 2.46". The length of the area that can be cooled is 2.45"
        I will double check tonight.

          so what is your point?

          the man asked what the numbers mean and i answered him...

          the spec.s i quoted come straight off the Distributors and Mfg.s websites...

          we gonna quivel over .04's of an inch?

          IMO the 2215 series [finned case] motors don't need water cooling, at 90-95% eff. when set-up right in the right application... they will do just fine!

          if you're worried, put a fan on the motor...
