You yourself has said you shorted out batteries, I have not shorted any batteries in the 25yrs I been in this hobby! You act as if I said I would sue.You need to calm down, and read it again. What I said is somebody is going to sue them and it will happen, that is just how the world is today.
What am I missing?

I've done a bunch of reading and there is always some type of sacrfice for going fast. My conclusion is run the motor hard(rpm's) and save the electronic. I don't know if it is the best way but without loading the boat w/ a low kv motor, heavy batts $$$ and a big $$$ speedo. I thinks it the only other method ( sacrfice a motor maybe) Anybody got a better way? Twins are a good idea to help distribute the load. Thanks for your input. MMComment

But, sacrificing a motor, you also could be puting harsh demands on your ESC. AND furthermore, cant tell you how many times Ive seen a motor fail and what happens a billionth of a second later, the esc fails. So dont think just because your running the motor hard that when it goes, that will be your only problem and thing that will need replaced.Comment

Yes I did in a moment of laxness and not paying close enough attention , I run 10 - 14 cell systems and in a rare occasion I had a pos and neg contact with a battery that had a melted heat shrink cover it was almost a one in a thousand chance but the two connected , when I connect up a two bank 14 cell system my heart is pounding cause I know a mistake will result in an electrical explosion so I double check every connection right down to charging the caps and yes me being 50 and being a boater for 30 years adds to my caution . I am calm and I have read it and if someone does try to sue good luck - as I said before you as a RC modeler assume the risks of the equipment you use .You yourself has said you shorted out batteries, I have not shorted any batteries in the 25yrs I been in this hobby! You act as if I said I would sue.You need to calm down, and read it again. What I said is somebody is going to sue them and it will happen, that is just how the world is today.
On a lighter note I see you are new so welcome to OSE by far the best fasst electric resource out there and yes thats with two SS's on the fast . Where does your 25 years of RC modeling reside
These are the guidelines I use for my builds - approx kv's
4 cell = 29" boats 2200 - 2600kv
6 cell = 33" boats 1400 - 1700kv
8 cell = 35 - 41" boats 1000 - 1250kv
10 cell = 45 - 48" boats 725 - 775kv
12 cell = 51 - 60 boats 525 - 650kv
14 cell = 61 - 72 boats 425 - 475kvLast edited by Punisher 67; 12-04-2011, 11:01 AM.Necessity is the mother of invention.............

This ie a very good thread with lots of good information for the newbie and seasoned boater, but I will stress that I dislike to hear claims of very high speeds on RTR boats that are not documented and as many on this forum have stated someone will follow that formula for disaster.....speed is not what it is all about.....handling in very important for different water conditions and how to setup your boat for those demands takes experience with your boat, nobody can tell you how to do it unless they watch your boat at the lake and offer some advice, if they are willing to give it to you.

Hey Terry, It is like a whale tale spoiler on a dodge neon. Altho they race dodge neons a whale tale has nothing to do with racing but the owner thinks it's racy for some reseon. I think political corectness has stopped us from pointing our finger at and laughing these things. Don't go making some ridiclous set up that doesn't fit into any racing class then come to racers and ask advice then complain it won't run for 20 minutes on a charge. Racing is racing and impressing friends in highschool is totally differant, never mix them.I try and avoid paste eaters.Comment

I'm with you, Sir Doug. While it's impolite to question the credibility of certain claims, I'm "scratching my head" over the claim that there's a boat that can do 80 mph for FIVE minutes. I've personally witnessed a handfull of boats that can go 80 mph, but the slightest irregularity in the water puts them a** over teakettle. SAW runs on well prepared boats piloted by highly seasoned racers run the traps in just seconds on perfect water, but regularly end up doing the destructo-dance when even the slightest wake or breeze kicks up. Just sayin....(with apologies if I'm off base here)This ie a very good thread with lots of good information for the newbie and seasoned boater, but I will stress that I dislike to hear claims of very high speeds on RTR boats that are not documented and as many on this forum have stated someone will follow that formula for disaster.....speed is not what it is all about.....handling in very important for different water conditions and how to setup your boat for those demands takes experience with your boat, nobody can tell you how to do it unless they watch your boat at the lake and offer some advice, if they are willing to give it to you.

Not off base at all Tony. My 70mph HOTR twin would run a minute tops. I too have heard many claims lately of high voltage / high KV running 80 mph for 5, 6 or even 7 minutes. I wonder if they are counting time to rescue the capsized rig?
A lot dont realize a boat being in the water for 5 minutes and running for 5 minutes are two different animals. I wonder too how much is guestimation on speed and they really do believe its going "about" that fast. Ive had countless neighbors come out and watch my Geico run and think its doing 75mph. When I tell them its a tick over 40 they always say the same thing "Wow, really? it looks like its halin a$$" IMO, 40mph for a 29" boat is haulin a$$ all things considered.
