BBY ss hydro

Hello,
i am relativly new to rc boating so please forgive me if i ask a common or silly question.

I purchased a bby ss hydro from Randy a few months back and now that its winter here in Australia i would like to get a start on it for next summer.
I have no idea what kv motor or prop to start with.
i would like to run it on 11.1 as i allread have several packs, and i was given a 70a speed control (not sure what brand but im sure it is only a cheap one).
I am not going to race this boat as last time i went to my local club a guy told me i could shove my electric - well you know where!

any tips or addvice will be much aperciated.

Sorry to hear you received that kind of response. I'm sure that there is someone else in your area that would consider racing with you, even if it's just for fun. That is of course if you are interested.

On 3s, you have a lot of motor choices. Having an idea of what your budget is would help with motor choices. To start with, you probably don't want a motor much more than around 3200-3300kv. In the middle of the price range, a Feigao 540L (Long) is plenty of motor without running into issues. An 8L (8-turn long can) has a kv of 3072. When starting with a smaller prop, say an Octura X637 or a X442, she should do around 51mph. Then you could prop up, watching heat and amp draw of course, to an Octura X640 which would put you at around 55mph. Much more than that and you'll likely need a higher amp ESC to ensure you don't fry anything.

thanks for the addvice Meniscus, i think Randy may have advised me to go with a 540l when i bought the hull. i have some questions about the speed controller that i have and was wondering where the best place to post my question would be?

I am sorry that I have little info on 3S setups I just do not get to run them in NAMBA. But there is a lot of guys on the board that can help in that direction. I can help you with the set up of the boat and what Brad said is is good advise too.

Andrew, with Meniscus and I would start with the 37 mm prop as you said you are relatively new to r/c boating. At 50 mph the bank and other obstacles come up real quick when you are driving. Move up to the bigger prop when you feel comfortable to do so. That X637 prop will be a good one to put away in your prop box, as if you stay in the hobby it will get further use on other boats.

Randy I think Brad was referring to the GOOSE that told Andrew where he could shove his electric boat, or at least I hope he was.

This is not the case as i know you are one of the true gentlemen of this site that sells reputable products , infact about 6 months ago almost bought the 27-28 inch jones type hydro from you , as i want to create an " ATLAS VAN LINES " replica which i spoke to you about at the time - i do plan to buy from you some time in the future to complete my ambtion ...

So i tested the speed control that i have (as i said i think it's just a cheap one but it will do for a start) and here is what i found.

if i connect battery but no rx i get nothing

if i connect battery with tx on i get - 1 long beep, 1 short beep, 1 long beep and 1 short beep. (i'm sure this means it has initialized) and the unit works correctly.

if i connect the battery with the tx on and holding full throttle it seems to go into program mode and i get - 1 short beep then 2 short beeps and so on upto 15 short beeps and then it starts again at 1 short beep.

if i go into program mode and let it beep (any number of times) and release the thottle it will give me 1 long and one short beep it will then pause for about two seconds and it will initialize (1 long, 1 short, 1 long and 1 short beep).

the speed control is just done in black heat shrink with no markings. i will try to post a pick of it and i hope i have explained correctly.

Is it a boat controller? If it is a airplane controller you will need a Pistix.

hi Randy, it is a boat esc. has water cooling and it will initialize fine with my radio i just want to make sure i set the lipo cutoff correctly. and would like to know what other features it has.

Hi guys, the hull is coming along nicely, i have a x442 prop and will be running the feigao 540l 8l motor on 3cell. i have added an inner frame made of carbon tube as sugested by randy but before i glue the two halfs together i would like to install the motor mount and turn fin bracket.
in the instruction the mount is 6 3/4 from the transom but there is a raised section on the hatch cover between 9 and 14 1/2 inches so would it be better in this section?
where do i mount the battery?
any help will be great.
