I think he quoted $850 for something like that!! You get what you pay for when it comes to Custom Paint!!

when I said under 100 I was talking about a local airbrush artist not a pro paint shop
The Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. I hope to see it float soon.

From what I have expirenced talking to local airbrush artist's and local paint shop's, for any quality job it takes time. Time is money!! Unless you have a friend that does airbrush and paint work, it will most likely cost more than a $100 bucks.

the paint scheme you want isn't a simple 2 or 3 colour job, if done all in paint you're looking at(by my count) about 7 different colours, and then there is cutting all the masks for the logo(2 minimum for each logo). throw in curing time for each colour you're looking at a 2 week job easy.

Rex is correct. Allowing for dry time between coats, curing and wet sanding. Clear coat and futher wet sanding I would allow a month for the amateur. A pro job would cost at least $1,000.

I would talk to a paint shop about which blue paint and clearcote to use, then prep and paint the hull. I would get the shop to add the graphics, then finish it yourself with clearcote. You might find someone to just add the graphics for a decent price.

If you could get a nice blue coat on it, and then do vinyl for the graphics, that would be a good way to go. You could even do a one stage paint so you don't need a clearcoat. A month is a bit long. If you had at least an idea of what you are doing it shouldn't take much more than two weeks, unless you only work on it a couple times a week.

i think doing vinyl would be hard... especially with air bubbles and the curves

im not an expert at painting. im only 13 but i can spray paint r/c car bodys but not with designs. i think with masking and spraying write wouldtake me forever...

with the vinyl put a drop of soap in a spray bottle filled with warm water. spray the hull and back of the vinyl and apply to hull. this gives you time to move it around and the warm water will help it strech around curve, you can also use a hair dryer. be sure to squigy all the excess water out from the vinyl. google it for more installing info

the current issue of model boat magazine has a section on painting. your local high school that has a good art class is a great source for finding an airbrush artist that just wants to show his/her talent. find someone and make them an offer.
i remember building a sport40 unlimited hydro in the early 1980's and a kid at church offered to paint it with a brush. turned out awesome and he wouldn't take $money$. then after a NAMBA race in dallas, texas some oil tycoon made me an offer i couldn't resist. it had whites, yellows, pinks, reds.....oh well.
